College seems to have great announcers. Herbstreit, Fowler, Brent Musberger are all good. But for some reason announcers in the NFL suck out loud.
a lot of college have local announcers that care about the teams or are on espn(/abc), which can afford to hire TONS of full time people and give them other tasks in the off seasons.

Cross is a skins hater. Like the rest of the talking head jerks that cover this league, Cross is a big guy on "you can't buy a championship", so he hates Snyder.

I like trading draft choices for proven players. Sure, buying vets is like buying a used car. With the exception that you know who owned the car and you know how it was used.

I hate Randy Cross! He is an ASS!

Lundquist still calls a great game, but I don't think CBS has him in the rotation on Sundays...if they do, I don't usually hear him. He usually does the big SEC game on Saturdays.

Mike Patrick and Mike Gottfried were great, until they were infiltrated by Joe Theismann and Paul Maguire. Mike Patrick is another one who calls a great game.

I can't stand Brent Musberger...not any more at least.

Musberger was great back in the day though on CBS.

Re: How bad were Dick Enberg and Randy Cross?

I was watching the 10 minute replay of the game On Demand yesterday. They use the radio broadcast for the commentary and I have to say that Sonny and Sam are just comical at this point.

On the jones-drew TD pass Curry Burns (#41) took a shot to the head and was on all fours for about 15 seconds before he finally got up. Sam starts yelling, "Cooley was hurt on the play! Cooley got hurt trying to make the tackle! Cooley looks shaken up!" Finally, after about the 5th time he said it, Sonny goes, "Cooley doesn't play defense." He couldn't have sounded more disgusted with Sam.

It reminded me of something my grandmother might say.

These OT games go way beyond Sam's bedtime (the nursing home has lights out at 6:30PM).

And to think he drives his car back to Middleburg after the game.

This thread is funny as hell! I do like Troy Aikman, he actually seems balanced and insightful. Not a bunch of fluff.

The Enberg and Cross trashing is funny!!!

I hate to admit it, but I also like aikman as an announcer. Liek you said, he's fair and not a cowgirls homer. Plus, he keeps trashing lavar this year and I kind of find that funny.

I feel like Fox has a couple of guys, whos' names I can never remember, who I absolutely can't stand. I think they all listen to tapes of old Madden games and just try to act and sound like him. They make the same dumb jokes about how much the o-linemen eat and how small the kicker is or whatever, and they all just sound like idiots. I really hate these people.

Re: How bad were Dick Enberg and Randy Cross?

It always seems like CBS guys don't have much to say about NFC teams. They always seem lost whenever they actually have to provide some sort of analysis for a team that they're not used to covering. That never ceases to amaze me as I believe they have about a week to do their homework. Even if they have 2 days, the Skins had only played 3 games this season, it wouldn't have been that difficult to add some insight to the game. All that said, I do enjoy listening to Randy Cross on Sirius, I may not agree with him all the time, but at least he's firm in his analysis.

Aikman is good. Like AMD said, he's not a homer. That's what I like the most about him.

You know who I think would be interesting in the booth, post retirement, is Mark Brunell. He has that telegenic look and well spoken.

During the pre-season, Cross had the skins written off. I listen to his lame ass on Sirius and he flip-flops like carp on hot pavement!

The NFL on Sirius is broadcasted out of New York.

I have a 3 hour commute everyday and listening to these guys make me sick. All the shows are hosted by Giants fans or Tiki Barbar.

They should call the channel "all Giants all the time".

Did you hear Randy Thomas in the booth with Sonny, Sam and Larry during the Tampa playoff game?

Randy knows his stuff!
