What about the OT throw to win the game against Jax?

He went down the field into coverage and took the chance that we all wish he would do more often.

I'd say that was making a play.

That was a good throw, but it was Moss on that one more than it was Brunell. That throw got there with good zip, which was nice to see. It got there before Deon Grant could close. The throw was high, in a spot only Moss could get it.

But it was only a 15 yard throw. From there, Moss did the rest, slithering away from Grant and taking it all the way.

Last time Brunell really did something to pull a game out of thin air was against Dallas last year in Week 2. Moss got deep, and Brunell made two tremendous deep throws.

Brunell always has a special place in my heart for that game. And I think he can do it again. But I like Drew Brees' chances to pull off heroics like that a lot better. (PS Disclaimer still stands, that move would have made no salary cap sense.)

Brunell is solid and is not the reason that the team had problems against the Giants. I guess I'm just daydreaming about what it would be like to have Tom Brady or Drew Brees. But that's pointless and I need to snap out of it. We're better off trying to solve problems elsewhere rather than worrying about the QB. Brunell is the best option we've got right now, all we can do is sink or swim with him.

That pass was also, predictably, to the sideline. where Jax defenders knew Brunell throws and were in two positions to make the INT. you heard Gibbs say that wasn't the ideal place to throw the ball (makes you wonder why they even ran the route then)

Moss attacked that ball and slipped out of double coverage, HE was the playmaker on that play.

C'mon I know it's hard but you have to at least give the guy some credit for having the sack to make that throw. Yes Moss made the play, but Brunell made a ballsy throw. Moss gets the majority of the credit there, but I tip my hat to Brunell. I wish he took more chances like that.

i do give him credit. I give him credit for throwing it to Moss past the line of schrimmage, and i give him credit for throwing it over the first defender.

i of course also wish he took more chances, but not necessarily just like that. there's a whole middle of the field he could throw to as well (Dallas, Dallas) that the very common Cover-2 isn't totally geared to stop like his sideline throws.

Or there was the comeback win in Dallas last year. I'd say that was making a play or two.

Apparently, those five minutes of football solidified him as the starter for the rest of his career, no matter how inconsistent he plays. How many sub par performances does he get for one miracle comeback in two and a half seasons?

Somehow we managed to get to the playoffs for the first time since 1999. He must have done something right along the way.

It's worth noting that as a team we have been wildy inconsistent... but I'm sure that is somehow all his fault.

Of course the defensive problems aren't his fault, but putting up three points(six if Hall makes the field goal) basically means the defense has to play lights out in order to win the game. So yes, the team has been inconsistent as a whole, but his performance (100 passing yards...) is almost entirely his fault.

Everything goes hand in hand.

Maybe if the 'D' could have gotten off the field a few more times, the offense could have gotten something going. They didn't have to play lights out, just get off the damn field once in a while.

you're right but the defense lost two key personnel, and is starting with a bunch of struggling new guys. we all knew that coming in.

what's the offense's excuse?

I guess you are right, after all he is still the starter and there are no plans to replace him this year anyway.

Really he is not the problem here. Everybody wanted Brunell's head after the first two games, then after the next two games it was all about breaking Gannon's record for consecutive completions in a game, then putting up 36 points on a number three defense. Then all of a sudden we get into another divisional game against the team that, by the way won our division last year, a team that has a pretty good defense themselves, in their house, after a bye week, with their backs against the wall, and we lose...Aaaah it's Brunell, and he sucks, blah, blah, blah.

It was not Brunell's fault we lost. It was the offensive line's inconsistencies, the secondary's poor coverage at times, the defensive line's lack of pressure on Eli, the missed field goals, suspect play calling at times. As a TEAM they need to get better, and as the team gets better so does Brunell.

It's too easy to play the QB blame game and unfortunately alot of people fall for it.

When the quarterback is the most visibly deficient skill position player on the field, he deserves most of the criticism for being unable to execute and get it to the playmakers. Mark Brunell has an elite running back, a pro bowl wide receiver, a potentially pro bowl tight end, and probably the best #3 receiver in the league at his disposal. That's more than Peyton Manning, Brady, McNabb, and just about every other quarterback in the league could hope to have.

But let's just keep making excuses. It's everyone but Brunell...
