Why not keep the move a secret?

What is the advantage of announcing this decision on a Monday? Couldn't we gain a competitive edge by springing this on the Bucs come game time? Now they have an entire week to make whatever adjustments they deem necessary.

There's no way the press wouldn't get wind of it, being at Redskins Park and all.

I suppose you're right. You would have to send about 50 reporters to Gitmo, which might raise eyebrows.

Well, like I said in the Collins vs. Campbell thread. I really thought Campbell's debut wouldn't be as a starter.

I guess the advantage is it's done, it's out there in the open and the team can just focus on the game now for the most part.

Also, I heard that Gibbs was tired of reading all the threads covering the same issue of Brunell on this board.

Well what is there to look at? JC has never had an NFL start, so there really only college and preseason stuff to look at.

Also why be scared about it? Just come out and say JC is the guy instead of pussy footing around.

Plus the Bucks don't know what to prepare for anyway because they have no film on Campbell. They don't know his strengths or weaknesses, so it'll be difficult preparing for the unknown.

They know that he is not Mark Brunell. It would be interesting to see how Campbell played against a defensive scheme designed for Brunell.

Question: Will the Bucs be more or less likely to blitz and why?

I say they would have blitzed Brunell because he can't handle it very well and they will blitz Campbell because he's green, so I guess I have just squashed the basic premise of my own thread. That's where thinking things through takes you.

HOPEFULLY the difference is a cannon of an arm ,fresh legs , a spark . something different like winning . i wonder if the kid can play corner too.

Re: Why not keep the move a secret?

Dude, there is no possible way 70chip. First of all, as somebody mentioned, the press would figure out wtf is going on when Campbell gets all the snaps. Its not like Gibbs can lie to the media, and say Mark is resting, while secretly telling the players that Mark wont start.

Second of all, it is obvious that Brunell, along with every team member would have to lie to the media for a week. This is not something that they signed onto the team for.

Only way this could really work, is if Gibbs made up his choice, gametime, or on Friday. But if he did that, he would lose the support of his players, bc it shows a coach cannot be honest with his players, if he has a QB in mind.

And the gametime stuff, usually happens when there is an honest QB race, like in preseason. NYJ did this for a while, but that was bc the QBs on the team didnt even know what the lineup was. If Gibbs knows he is gonna pull a QB, he HAS to tell them, and the media ASAP.

i'm just saying in general, i underatnd that a qb can play better than others, but does that make a defference how the other teams defense prepares

They probably will blitz a lot on obvious passing downs, but at least when they do, they'll have to defend the whole field. With Brunell, all they had to do was cover one third.

I like it. Quick and decisive. Like ripping off a band-aid.
