One word:Trenches
I see a lot of people talking about signing Clements and benching Marshall next year and doing all this finger pointing. Forget all that. I was watching highlights of the last Panthers game on their website and they were interviewing Christian Morton and he said something like, "Those D-lineman man, (sigh of appreciation/relief) it just makes our job so so much easier." The Panthers had a lot of young Db's in too without Ken Lucas, and they didn't allow one point. I feel like next year if we focus primarily on the lines, we'll be fine..the game is won in the trenches! We need two more starters on the D line, and maybe 1 on O line. We don't need to sign Clements or any linebackers. By next year Rocky should have the job, and leave Marshall alone..he has been playing injured all year, we've already seen what he can do, hes cheap and he knows the defense...he's fine as a MLB.

Re: One word:Trenches
i agree. average corners in this league look good behind a solid, pass rushing front four. and i am not ready to give up on marshall just yet

2 DL starters is a lot to ask for. That's not something that's added all that easily, or cheaply for that matter. I just hope we focus on building that part of our team up through the draft instead of revamping the whole front four with the latest and greatest FA acquisitions.

I'll be beating this drum right up to the day of the draft. We need Gaines Adams. Somehow, someway we must land that monster. He is ready to play today

Re: One word:Trenches
This thread hits the nail on the head - in the trenches is where is all starts and the foundation for any good team.
A decent d-line getting some pressure on the quarterback - I bet even our secondary would look servicable. A decent o-line opening holes and protecting the quarterback - Campbell would be given those precious extra seconds to make a play and a running game that eats up the clock. This has to be the teams priority in the off season, especially the d-line. Everything else will fall into place and all of the other parts of the team would look much better. |

I've said it over and over, because it's been proven through the years, team building starts with the lines. Our greatest weakness on defense is the line, and we'll continue to be exploited until we fix it.

Re: One word:Trenches
i am not sure if he is the one we need. but whoever it is, they need to be able to come in and play right away.
