I thought it was interesting to see how much can be attributed to protection and line play. There are so many things we can't see on tv, and often broken plays are due to poor protection, not necessarily a bad play call or bad throw.

This is relevant to the Skins for 2 reasons:

1. It shows how much our O-line breakdowns are hurting us. I wasn't thrilled to read this...

"For Jaworski, this is the play of the game. He loves Saunders's game plan, but says the pass protection, particularly tackles Jon Jansen and Chris Samuels, is preventing touchdown opportunities. Jansen, Jaworski says, is "getting pushed backwards more than I've ever seen him," while Cosell considers Samuels "a nice player, but not an anchor over there."

...but I doubt this comes as a big surprise to any of us. Jansen no longer appears to be a stabilizing force on our line. And Samuels, though decent, has never really taken his game to the next level and ANCHORED this line. I have nothing against Samuels, but he's our biggest cap hit, and has received more cash than any Redskins player in HISTORY. I just wish he was more dominant, but it looks like that may never happen.

2. It shows how a lack of pressure from our D-line makes life so much easier on the opposing offense. Even when the opposing offense calls the right play against us and has us beat, some pressure from our D-line can still turn the play in our favor.

"There's your touchdown. . . . They beat the defense. The problem is that the defense beats the protection."

The bottom line is we are losing the war in the trenches.
Bill Parcells made the exact same observation about Jansen. Said something to the effect of him losing a step and not being the player he was a few years ago.

Great article! It's nice to have a credible source validate that JC has the chops to play, instead of that toolbag Salisbury.

I find it comforting that Saunders system doesn't seem to be the problem according to Jaws. The plays are good, the players keep messing them up. People keep ripping Saunders, but I kind of doubted that he all of a sudden couldn't coach anymore.

Hopefully we can get the kinks ironed out over the last 6 games and come out next year swinging. Now, can the defense do something?

It's encouraging but also annoying because it makes me think he could have been doing this all season if Gibbs wasn't stuck on Brunold..

Jansen and Samuels have been turnstiles this year (really for a couple years) so that's nothing new. I think Saunders is going to have to adjust a little and use a TE as a blocker more than he is used to doing because we need help in protection..

Jaws endorsement is as good as gold in my eyes..

I am not directly my comments to you Jason, but to Saunders haters.

I have been preaching that this entire year. It is not Saunders, seriously. But it's all good, if it takes Jaws to convince you all, then so be it. I dont say I told you so, but I told you so.

What part does bugal play?
Does he not fully understand what Saunders is trying to do?
Is Saunders not correcting Bugal because he has the same rank(Ass. Head Coach)?

In the Dallas game, On fourth and goal, Dockery pulled to the right and met a linebacker in the hole. The unknown linebacker stands dockery up and makes the tackle on portis. I hate dockery and samuels I even hate them more than archuleta, Stanley Richards, and Heath Shular.

I think it's time to blowup out offensive and defensive lines. Toobad samuels makes too much money.

Re: Jaws breaks down Campbell

Jansen has been gettting pushed around in pass pro all year long. If he's hurt than sit him on the bench. If he's not then make him accountable. That's the problem with this team. No ones accountable. What needs to happen is sit some of these guys down on the bench.
As fas as Campbell of curse he going to be rusty on some stuff. He hasn't started a game in a long time. He'll be just fine. Off the charts talent. I honestly don't know why Alex Smith went ahead of him.

This Is what upsets me also...If he was just a bum I could understand....But Why didn't we see this guy alot earlier with his obvious talent...I mean Brunell wasn't winning games anyway.. Makes me wonder about Gibbs...I still love him ...But not happy about it..

Re: Jaws breaks down Campbell

Might not hurt to focus a little on the O-line in next year's draft.

What? Samuels played in the probowl last year. Although, I would agee he's playing horrible this season this year.

Hard to say that Campbell would have showed the same poise he showed on Sunday two or three weeks ago.

As for Samuels making the pro bowl last year, that really doesn't mean anything. Fewer and fewer players are getting in on merit anyway

Re: Jaws breaks down Campbell

Those of you who want to let Saunders off the hook need to remember that he is the Offensive Coordinator. He is responsible for the play of the line as well. He is not the receivers coach. If Bugel isn't getting it done, then Saunders is suppossed to deal with that. We all knew going in that the O-Line was going to need to learn new techniques and a new approach. One that was new to Bugel as well. If they aren't getting it done, then Saunders let something slip along the way.

Didn't Samuels allow an amazingly tiny amounts of sacks last year?
