Falcons Reportedly Set to Hire Petrino

So much for my theory that NFL teams would be less likely to hire a college coach based on the Saban saga.

ESPN.com - NFL - Sources: Falcons hire Petrino to be new head coach

Clearly this had been in the works for some time.

These guys never learn from history. For every Jimmy Johnson, you've got truckloads of Spurriers, Holtzes and Sabans.

It's true JJ won two Super Bowls with the Cowboys and I'm not knocking he's a great coach but his first two years as a Cowboys coach got him a 8-24 record. By todays standards he would have been canned and labeled a bust.

I actually think Saban would've been mildly successful in the NFL.

Re: Falcons Reportedly Set to Hire Petrino

Wow. I think this can only be bad. First off college coaches have proven to be terrible for basically the last 15 years. With the exception of JJ is there even one guy who had moderate success? Second think about this.

Mora is pretty respected around the league. I think the general concensus is that he'll get another HC job at some point and will probably do a good job. So they get rid of a well respected guy and replace him with basically a guy who has earned nothing in the NFL. You think Mora had a hard time dealing with the growing Vick fiasco wait until he shows down with Petrino. Who is gonna win that battle? Blank basically loves Vick and will do anything for him apparently. You think when Vick can't get the job done AGAIN that Petrino isn't gonna takle the fall? The real problem with that team is lack of production at the QB position.

Re: Falcons Reportedly Set to Hire Petrino

Apparently our old buddy Hue Jackson is going to be their offensive coordinator....instant rumor (totally made up by me): Ramsey reunites with Jackson, signs with Falcons.

Hue Jackson? Really? Didn't know he was considered coordinator material. Weren't all the coaches under Spurrier like high school level according to most of the leagues "anonymous sources"?
