Re: Ncaa Football Playoff!?
16 is a long ways away, however we could see a plus one game implemented as soon as 2011 according to espn.com. Hell if we can 8 or 12 I would be completley stoked, but you'll always have whiners wanting new and better systems. Ive done research papers and done some extensive reading on the BCS and well this a problem that college football has had long before the BCS was ever implemented, but now with communication and media traveling so fast and from so many different areas the cry for playoffs has never been bigger. Im all for playoffs but it seems as if the BCS is making steps towards implementing a playoff system and if you look at the history of college football altogether the BCS is making real progess in moving closer to a better system .

Edit: Victims of the BCS system (correct me if im wrong) Auburn 04-05 season record 12-0 Boise State 06-07 season record 12-0 Whats wrong with this picture hmm? whats wrong!? and we can't say that Boise doesn't belong in a BCS Bowl...experts said that and got politely silenced last week, face it guys they ultimatly got the hose. Then tonight in the "National Championship" if we can even call it that anymore lol Florida kicked Ohio's ass so bad fans were litteraly IN TEARS! Yeah Ohio needed to lose to make schools like Boise's case that there should be a playoff....tonights victory for the Gators puts an Exclamation point on it! to be simply stated The little guy like BSU is saying...Stop F**king me over! |

I agree it should go but everyone needs to wise up. The BCS is NEVER going away. It makes the powers that be too muchy money and there is no real outcry amongst coaches. The only way a playoff comes around is if Congress starts threatening to mess with the NCAA over the exploitation of the athletes. It is a sad reality but a reality none the less.

Re: Ncaa Football Playoff!?
There is no excuse not to promote a playoff. Every other division in NCAA football (I-AA, II, III) has a playoff. An 11 game schedule, followed by a 16 team bracket (4 games) is quite feasible. And the bowl sites could certainly play a huge part in where these games are played. Lesser bowls could still host teams that do not make the bracket.

All I know is a 50-day layoff before the championship game is ridiculous.

The NCAA has to pay lip service to the "student" part of the term "student-athlete." When I was swimming in college, we always had a 3 week break for finals and the holidays. For our men's swim team, we actually needed the break, because we weren't there on scholarship, and we had to work for our grades unlike football players at top division 1 schools. But, that's how it goes. The NCAA is going to pretend these kids are students, no matter what.

Re: Ncaa Football Playoff!?
But even still, 50 days is an awful lot. They'll never go without a break for finals, but you're right, nobody needs 50 days.

Re: Ncaa Football Playoff!?
I understand 3-4 weeks for finals and christmas break, but c'mon 50 days is just about money. They want to space out all the big name bowls to maximize TV revenues.

Re: Ncaa Football Playoff!?
I also don't like the fact that they waited until January 8th to play the game. People already watched a ton of college bowl games right around New Years and the first weekend of the NFL playoffs, so it was almost like last night's game wasn't all that important or something. Maybe if they put the game on last Thursday I would have still felt like I was in the college football mindset, especially since the NFL playoffs just make hate the BCS system so much more.
Stupid over-analysis by TV people, like TAF.
