Re: What is your main gripe with the proposed Briggs deal?
That would be cool and all but we really don't need CJ. I think lloyd will come through this year. Anyway, the more I think about it this may be a good thing as long as we can get a good DT at 31 and MAYBE DE somewhere. Who knows!

We should have gone after Briggs before we signed Fletcher. We is our front office thinking?

Re: What is your main gripe with the proposed Briggs deal?
im pretty neutral to the idea. on one hand you get one of the best young tackling LBs in the league who (hate to say it) would be a great replacement for marcus who might have to go next year due to cap and sub-pro bowl performance but . . . your going to have to pay lance big (even if he only counts 3-5M the first few years), stunt rockys growth even more (lance started as a rookie) when i want to see what he can do, and move too far back in the draft to snag one of the top tier DL prospects . . . i say pass on briggs and try n trade down, i really think trading down to the early mid first round drafting a yound DL prospect for good comparative pay plus picking up an additional second rounder for BPA/need is the way to go . . . all draft picks run the risk of failure but we are not going to the superbowl this year so why not wait to see if we can sign briggs next offseason (when his signing demand may be less given a year out of the limelight) and use this year to make sure we are serious contenders in 08!!

I don't know if putting Briggs in front of him will retard Rocky's growth any, he still should be getting reps in practice, but one thing it will do for sure is prevent us from getting any return on a very costly investment this season. I could see Marcus on his way out as soon as next year and Rocky replacing him at the easier to play SLB. But ultimately, your point will ring prophetic in time, do we really need Lance Briggs at all?

Funny how both Bears and Skins fans seem to hate this deal.

Briggs is one of the better OLBs in the game. Rocky has barely gotten his feet wet in this league, there's no comparison. |

Re: What is your main gripe with the proposed Briggs deal?
There are several things that seem to come to mind with this whole briggs deal. Looking at the deal at face value and just trying to piece together what the redskins' mindset may be at, what this whole deal (and previous off-season moves) says to me is:
(1) the redskins appear to be trying to pick up a defensive lineman - because they are willing to move down. To me, first-round defensive linemen have less value in the draft compared to other positions. (2) the redskins doesn't value one d-lineman prospect over another - because they are willing to move down so much. (3) the redskins were unsatisfied with the linebacker play of last season - because of the attention they are giving to the lb positions - they fired the lb coach, signed fletcher, are going after briggs. Because the redskins seem to be content with a defensive lineman at a lower draft pick (because of reasons #1 and #2 above), they are trying to possibly fill two concerns by trading the sixth pick. Basically a two for one. This is the only way I can rationalize this deal when I put myself in their shoes. |

Re: What is your main gripe with the proposed Briggs deal?
FORGET about Lance Briggs!!! He is a great linebacker, but we need as much depth at the CORNERBACK POSITION as we could get! The ONLY answer to this problem is ASANTE SAMUELS. Take him right now! Give the #6 for one of New Englands two 1st rounders and maybe Sean Springs(who has done nothing of late!) Just because we run on every first and second down doesnt mean every other team in the league is that PREDICTABLE!!! WE NEED TO STOP THE PASS!!! STOP+PASS=CHAMPION!
Im a diehard fan, but we need some help. HAIL |

Wonder how long old Rosenhaus waits to stir the pot again.

I think we did "forget about Lance Briggs," which is why no one touched this thread in over a week.

Re: What is your main gripe with the proposed Briggs deal?
sorry, but I just dont see the need in another corner. Yes you need players, but with Rogers, Springs, Smoot, Taylor, Macklin, Stoutmier, Dougherty and who ever else we have I think we have enough quality depth at the position. Looking from depth standpoint our LB core is short. Marcus is a beast and should continue to be. Marshall is 30(not old-but not getting younger) and honestly did not play all that well. Fletcher is 32(that is old!) and Rocky is unproven. I am all for letting Rocky develop and get playing time. But when an opportunity presents itself to aquire a top 5 LB in his prime, I dont see how we can pass it up.

Re: What is your main gripe with the proposed Briggs deal?
All of the above.
However, I voted for the first option. It will be great to get a high pick, we dont get one most years. |
