I think the difference there is that they've sucked without blowing money on free agent busts. If Clements and whoever else they've signed bomb this year, and they go out and do the same thing next year, and the year after -- you know, the way the Redskins do it -- then you'll start hearing the criticism.

With the emergence of Alex Smith, Frank Gore's running, and what many consider to one of the best drafts this year, they seem to be the consensus 'sleeper' team of the year.

My point is the media loves to harp on this blanket statement of "you can't buy a championship".

I get that the Skins have a long track record of trying this and failing. But why do certain teams get a free pass when they try? If you really can't buy a championship as they say, it seems that every team should be blasted for even trying.
