Re: How many points do we think this offense will put up every Sunday?

Now looking at Receiving the 01KC had 110 REC, the Skins had 123. KC had 1749 YDS, the Skins had 1682, KC had an AVG 13.0 and the Skins had 13.5, KC had 7 TD's, and the Skins had 10 TD's.
KC in 02 had 123 REC, 2049 YDS, for 14 TD's.

Re: How many points do we think this offense will put up every Sunday?

Now for the TE's. 01Gonzales had 73 REC,for 917 YDS, AVG of 12.6 and 6 TD's. Cooley had 57 REC, for 734 YDS, AVG of 12.9 and 6 TD's. Also the Skins had more TE's they were using TOTAL SKINS: 79 REC, 861 YDS, for 8 TD's.
I belive the numbers were not to far off from the first yr KC and the first yr Skins. I spoke with a co-worker about this and he pointed out that in the last 4 or 5 games Gibb's took back the play calling and possibly put his run blocking back in that they had so much success with the previous yrs. This may be true because they did seem to run better but it also may be as some people have stated here that with JC teams were afraid he would throw the deep ball and backed up their safety's and it created running lanes. I can only hope that what ever they did running carries over this yr and the passing should improve according to the KC stats.

Before people start talking about all the talent he had to work with, please note that in 2006, without Saunders, Kansas City dropped to 16th in the league in total offense with 321 yds/game (Note: Washington was 13th), and 15th in the league in scoring (Washington was 20th).

There are also some good numbers to look at in Saunders bio. I'm sure people know how to find this, but it's a good read if you haven't seen it in a while. It gets me excited.

With this in mind, I'm going with between 25 and 30 pts/game for the skins this year.
EXACTLY. I think in the neighborhood of 25 pts/gm give or take a point or two on either end. Saunders has been so successful as a coordinator, it's actually pretty awesome. And other than Tony Gonzalez, the pass catchers on that KC team were never really anything other than role players. With Moss a legit #1 and Cooley being the stud he is, if we can get either ARE or friggin' Lloyd to step up as a legit #2, I think this offense can dominate. If Portis stays healthy he's gonna have a monster season.

I like this thread. Very positive...

For the stats gurus...

Professional Football Researchers Association- Pro Football History

good article on how to determine the effectiveness of an offense and the way turnovers effect pts/game

It claims a turnover is worth 4 pts. on average. (2 lost for your team, 2 for thier team).

That means a ton from the defensive point of view. If we can be effective at forcing turnovers it will not only help the D, but also help an offense that looks to be better than last year anyway. I'm so excited for the season. This summer is gonna drag.

Re: How many points do we think this offense will put up every Sunday?

You guys are correct. The Defense is the Key. It doesn't matter if we can keep up or score quickly if we fumble the ball (ie Betts) or throw interseptions. I will say that I belive we have a better Defensive coach then KC had and I belive the Defense is a better group then KC had, but if we score to quickly then that puts our D back on the field and they have not rested which means other teams just have to grind it out on us and hope that in the 4th quarter they can catch up. I'm all for the quick score it's exciting but I hope we have plans to simply go 10-15 yrds occassionally to rest our D.

Re: How many points do we think this offense will put up every Sunday?

Gibbs was a slow methodical Offensive grind it out coach. Saunder's is a fast score get way ahead and hope they can't catch up coach. I would like to see them combine thoughts and score fast early and then grind it out to wear down other teams late.

I agree, but I think that sometimes Gibbs has a tendancy to try and grind it out too early. We need at least a 21 point lead before the grinding should begin. Otherwise the other team is going to have too much time to catch up and bite us in the ass.
