9 times out of 10 the agents are just looking at what the guy in front of or behind their client in the draft was paid by their team and adjusting down or up accordingly. There are obviously some exceptions (when a potential top ten slides way down i.e., Quinn this year).

Keep an eye on those other picks and you'll have a good barometer of when Landry will get signed.
Exactly what I was going to say. Thats kind of the bitch of all of it, is everyone waits so late to sign, so somtimes things like that happen. Even if he did hold out, I wouldnt take it as "he dosent want to be here" , but he needs to protect himself.

That being said, the Skins' ussually do a very good job with this kind of thing and I'd be suprised if its an issue.

good post. The nfl's rookie allotment cap structure has helped a lot w/holdouts.

I'm surprised at how many here seem to think a holdout is such a low probability. The signings before him will dictate how much his agent asks for & on top of that his agent may use Desmond Howard's agents' logic; my client is an impact player & should get more than the guy drafted in front of him. Howard's agent said that because he was a wr/returner & Sean Gilbert was a DE that Howard should get paid more even though Gilbert was drafted before him. Landry's agent may play up the "best d-player in the draft" angle.

Plus, the skins may feel that they need to pay him as little as possible so that they won't have to pay ST as much to redo his deal. ST & Rosenhaus will be paying a lot of attention to Landry's deal. Who is LL's agent?

Re: Will Landry Hold Out?

freddyg12 has asked the key question here. Who is Landry's agent?

Some agents ALWAYS have their players sign late - either because they want to see what all the other picks get or because they are finageling for some perk in the contract. Other agents take pride in getting deals done early and "setting the market" for the rest of the draft picks.

So who is Landry's agent? Find out the agent's track record and you'll have a pretty good idea of whether or not he'll be in camp early or late.

I think his agent is named Joel Segal. He also represents Reggie Bush.

No, he'd also be hurting the whole team, especially the defense.

If he's not ready and hasn't taken enough defensive snaps in practice and the preseason, he'll find himself out of position and out of synch.

We'd end up with Adam Archuleta again.

I disagree, I do not think that our D will rest on Landry's shoulders. I think that if he does hold out he will be only hurting himself. Idealy it would be nice for Landry to be at camp on time. But if he isnt Sean Taylor is versitile enough to fill in at Strong Saftey and have Pearson P. fill in untill Landry can get cought up. I am not saying that PP is better than Laundry but in this situation it would work. Also, I think that it would be a slap in the face to ST if Landry does get to the start opening game. Remember GW doesn't like to start rookies untill he feels they are ready. And if you remember, ST would not have started so soon if it wasnt for an injury...

Re: Will Landry Hold Out?

We have absolutely no way of knowing whether Landry will be a holdout or not, speculating one way or another seems completely pointless to me. On one hand there's no reason to think he would hold out, and on the other hand shitake mushrooms happen sometimes.

Who the hell knows at this point, I don't see that there's much to discuss on the matter.

This is true. I believe Dr. Quack is well on his way to breaking all Warpath records, for the most LITTLE POSTS AWARD, for the most LITTLE posts in a one year time frame. I think the prize is like a warparth #2 pencil, or some other big prize like that.

I'm bettin he'll crack well over the 10K post mark in 12 months....? Keep on rockin one line wonder!

Re: Will Landry Hold Out?

If Joel Segal is his agent - I'm assuming that Art Monk Drilz is knowledgeable here - then I'd offer a word of caution to Skins' fans.

Joel Segal represents Michael Vick; and Michael Vick is a HUGE client for any agent to handle. At the moment, my guess is that Joel Segal is really busy trying to figure out what the hell is going on in that little corner of the NFL world. It might just be that the last thing on his mind is worrying about a timely signing for a rookie draft pick...

Or maybe - if the Redskins are lucky - it is just the opposite. Maybe all Joel Segal wants to do is get those rookies signed and ready to report to camp so he can try to figure out how to salvage the reputation of his REALLY BIG client...

So he might hold out or he might not.

Re: Will Landry Hold Out?

Why is it that everyone thinks Landry will hold out? What's the basis for this?

If I were a betting man, I'm betting he's going to be in camp. The fact that this kid stayed in school his entire four years tells me that money isn't the only thing on his mind.
