That's incredibly sad. RIP Marquise Hill, God Bless and I hope his family recovers, and people learn how much a life jacket can help save your life if you fall in the water.

I know the value of a life jacket because I fell in the Florida Keys during spring break and if I hadn't been wearing one I would've gotten tired a lot faster cuz I was dumb and tried swimming against the current. If Marquise Hill tried swimming against the current he would've tired out a lot faster and then been more susceptible to drowning.

Very sad.

From what I've heard (and I've heard various versions so I don't know the exact details) but apparently someone had rescued Hill. But when he didn't see his friend he dove back in the water to get her, not knowing that she had found her way to a nearby pylon.

An unfortunate way to remind the general public there are still good people in this world

That is just horrible. So sad to see things like that happen. I'll pray for him and his loved ones.

Definitely a shame. You have to always wear a PFT (personal floatation device). In this case it was a matter of life and death. RIP Mr. Hill, and I will be praying for your family and friends.

If you are going to go out, might as well do it in a heroic fashion.

RIP Marquise Hill

Very sad indeed.

Are there any things people should know, besides life vests and not swimming against the current, that can make it so this type of tragedy doesn't happen again?

He was riding a jet ski and by their nature you are going to fall off them. Its like water sking and at some point you will be in the water. I'm not sure who owned the Jetski but no one should ever ride one without a vest and most states its law that you wear one. The only other thing would be to ride very safe until you learn how to handle one of these. The bigger the person or the more weight on a jet ski the harder it is to keep up right as they become top heavy. So as big as he was with a pasenger he could have been just cruising around and lost balance. Its kind of like a bike if you go real slow its hard to keep your balance but after you speed up some it will balance itself to a point. Its just said loss and that a $15.00 life vest would have saved his life.

If my memory is correct at one time back in the 80's or 90's these where very common and people would make sure the home was not empty at those times. It makes a tough time even tougher on the family.
