Sounds like he went off the same deep end that Marty S. did a few short years ago. Marty had an unbelieveable regular-season winning record as a disciplinarian until he came here and went over the top with it. Coughlin seems to be in even deeper...

It's just him. Every coach has his own idiosyncrasies, but he has a habit of taking it to the extreme. As Skins fans we saw it here in '01 with Schotteheimer. The Oklahoma drills on the first day, the dressing down of Darrell Green (the beginning of the end for Marty), and Tony Banks at qb (I mean he got cut by Dallas and then he's our starter? Did that season really happen?)

I love Coughlin. He needs to keep doing what he's doing. I give him one season and he's history.

T.c.

Quote:
The irony of the whole thing is that he is losing the "control" that he covets so much. I heard that the players association is going to nail him to the wall after this and the over the top offseason workouts.

Is T.C. nuts? Seems that way. Losing control? Not hardly. As for the over the top pre-season workouts there are some complaints to the players assoc. As well as several complaints about the fines from being "LATE" to meetings. And it's more than one or two players.

The guy seems to think he's parcells without the respect. He is breaking the team down, for what he seems to think is for the better.

(1) Assistants cannot talk to the media

(2) Players cannot talk to the media without permission.

(3) Fining of players over the most inane infractions.

T.C will be here for more than 2 seasons you can count on that. Whether this hard nosed (or just plain stupid) tactic is for show (or for reasons we don't fully have an understanding of) will work is yet to be seen.

It's week one and to say he will be gone next year is just plain silly.

The giants have been lacking discipline on and off the field. They are lacking at many positions. The corners are suspect the FS stinks. The "D" line is weak. The "O" line is poor.

Without basic discipline these (with the players on the roster) weakness’ cannot be address on any level. (E.g. poor tackling, missed assignments, ect, etc)

kicking around players who simply don't have the talent to make the current schemes work is just dumb though... he should have gotten better players and prevented the firesale...

If it creates division and makes them weaker I'm fine with it. Don't like 'em.

This is what happens when an old disciplinarian meets a group of underachieving vets. Yeah, Coghlin is idiosyncratic, but he can coach football. Still, it will take time, and between now and then (if it works out), things are going to be turmoil. And in the spotlight of the NY press, no less.

But our job is to take care of business. Let's not be the stepping stone that allows Coughlin to win over the team! They are down; let's go up there and kick them!!!

With his leadership style, he had better improve over last years record. Disciplinarian is one thing, Parcells does that great, crazy old dictator is something else... and thats what Coughlin looks like now. BUT, if he does improve the Giants record (a hard task in this division) the Giants players are sure be dealing with his methods for a few years.

The last season I remember is the one where we lost to the Niners in the Playoffs. I have some depressing stuff I'm repressing in between, and then there's last Sunday. Who's Marty?
