Values are a matter of prospective and beliefs. Lets take human sacrifice for instance. Is a society that practices human sacrifice insane compared to that which doesn't but permits capital punishment? If yes, how so? What if the person being sacrificed wishes to be sacrificed while a person that does not wish to be put to death is put to death?

One can be very sane and have no values (i.e. drug dealers or dudes that rob old ladies). The litmus test for determining sanity can not be based on values. I mean, I would have to classify everyone I throughly disagree with as insane (i.e. Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia).

The question was not about the definition of insanity. The question was, How can you tell that that we see before us is not a broad moral crisis, but rather the isolated, disconnected acts of a few and at what point would the latter become the former and would you ever admit that a moral crisis existed or would you be saying "perspective" as they danced around your pyre?

I contend that what we see before us is the acting out of modern man's hatred for himself. He still feels guilt (he seems to have been born with THAT) but having disposed of God he has no way to assuege that guilt. Ever increasing violence ensues. The intellectuals are finished with God as well, indeed they led the way, so they blame guns, or blame their political opponents, or deny the phenomenon completely. They are as confused and lost as everybody else. We may have invented God, but we did so for a purpose. You can't pretend that suddenly removing such a central concept so suddenly and decisively is not bound to have undesirable and unpredictable consequences.

On a lighter note, I'm curious to see which right wing monster you invoke in your next post. We've had Coulter, Scalia, and Thomas. The fact that you dislike all the correct people has been duly noted.
