I must confess I have yet to read Harry Potter (keep meaning to though), but you're the first person who I've ever heard say they started reading the book and didn't like it. Everyone else raves about it.

I saw the first HP movie and thought it was fun, but nothing great. I really enjoyed Prisoner of Azkaban though. And, from what I understand, the movies don't do the books justice

thats why i don't read the books. my wife is always comparing the movie to the book and the end result is always the same, she says the movie was good but didn't totally follow the book.
i watch the movies only,so without having to compare them to the books, the movies are really good and imo, they keep getting better.
