German Sheppards are amazing dogs. They have a truely loving heart, and they are VERY intelligent. Add to that they can be a great watch dog, and that makes a great dog.
I didn't want a "watch dog", I wanted lazy easily maintainable dogs, so I have bassets. But if I didn't have a gun and a security system, I would have gotten a German Sheppard.
I also like Rottwielers, but often times they go off on people in uniforms and random things, and while they love their family to death, sometimes it's hard to have visitors with them.

ps- I say get the gun anyway. What is her main argument to not have one?
