$15 million divided by 6 years comes to $2.5 million per year. So that would mean his cap figure in year one will be $2.5 million plus whatever the base salary is for a rookie. So no, that wouldn't work for us, because it would put him over the $2.1 rookie pool in year one.

This is probably the exact reason why the Skins don't have a deal with him yet. Landry probably wants $15-$18 million in guarantees (that's market rate for the 6th pick these days) but the Skins have to explain that if we give you that much in guarantees, we have to make the deal a 10 year deal in order to fit under the rookie pool. Then Landry says hell no, I'm not signing a 10 year deal, I want to hit free agency at some point in my career. Then the Skins say OK, then if you want a 6 year deal, the guaranteed money can't be higher than $12 million.

So ultimately they have a stalemate, and they'll have to get creative with voidable years to satisfy both Landry and the rookie pool cap.
