Excellent point. He can get away with check downs and short passes in the pre-season when defenses are more basic and the opposing coaches are putting their players in situations for evaluation purposes. Come September, the game speeds up dramatically and you need a QB that can stretch the defense. Otherwise, they slowly suffocate you.

Not that Brunell is Nolan Ryan but his arm does look stronger than it has since before the injury he suffered in the Giants game, December of 2005. The question is, does Collins knowledge of the offense compensate enough for his weak arm, or to put it another way, which of the two gives you the best chance to win. I would lean Brunell but it will be painful if we have to watch him play safe for three quarters and then start flinging it when all hope is nearly lost. I think that's part of the support for Collins. People are weary of Brunell's cautious style.
