Why you wait until the last round for a kicker!
For all those that thought about, or did take a kicker early, here is how they are ranked right now, and in ( ) is what they were ranked preseason.
1- J. Reed (14th) 2- N. Rackers (2nd) 3- M. Stover (8th) 4- N. Folk (not ranked top 15) 5- A. Vinatieri (4th) 6- L. Tynes (not ranked top 15) 7- D. Akers (13th) 8- S. Suisham (not ranked top 15) 9- K. Brown (not ranked top 15) 10- J. Hanson (15th) 11- S. Graham (1st) 12- J. Nedney (9th) 13- M. Crosby (not ranked top 15) 14- J. Wilkins (6th) 15- J. Feeley (12th) 16- S. Gostkowski (not ranked top 15) 17- S. Janikowski (not ranked top 15) 18- J. Brown (10th) 19- J. Elam (7th) 20- J. Kasay (not ranked top 15) NOTE- Nate Kaeding is 29th and was ranked 3rd. Robbie Gould is 27th and was ranked 5th. Josh Scobee is 33rd and was ranked 11th. Keep in mind the difference between the best kicker and the 20th kicker is only 16.5 points.

Re: Why you wait until the last round for a kicker!
What league do you play in that somebody does take a kicker in a round other than the last? I'd like to join next year.

I'll admit one thing though, I usually take a kicker in the 2nd to last round but ONLY IF I feel pretty comfortable with all my other positions. Then in the last round I'll take a random guy that I think could be a sleeper (I picked up Dwayne Bowe this year).

Re: Why you wait until the last round for a kicker!
My keeper league (16 round draft) had kickers going in the 11th Round. I took Rackers in the 14th...after Kaeding, Graham, Vinatieri, Wilkins, Elam, and Gould were already drafted. My last 2 picks were Dallas Clark and Kevin Jones.

For some reason, regardless of what everyone says, people feel taking a "top ranked" kicker will help them. They never realize that it is rare for a kicker to maintain top status. In 3 of my leagues, I picked up Jeff Reed off waivers, and he's #1 right now. Kickers are a dime a dozen and do not require anything but a last pick. (maybe 2nd to last)

Re: Why you wait until the last round for a kicker!
does that mean we should wait on all the big RBs that have choked thus far too?
drafting is about outliers...sometimes kickers warrant consideration... clearly this is being dramatic, but you get what i'm saying...

Re: Why you wait until the last round for a kicker!
I love fantasy football but it's just a game and a fun distraction to me. I know it's not kosher to FF geeks to take kickers too early but c'mon, it's all good. As long as everyone has fun that's all that matters.

Re: Why you wait until the last round for a kicker!
Most hard and fast fantasy "rules" can be ignored. Have a solid game plan when you draft and stick to it. But the one "rule" that really should be a rule is that no kicker EVER warrants anything but a last round pick. If it were more practical I wouldn't even draft one and just take the extra position player and pick up a kicker about 5 minutes before game time. The difference between the best kicker and the 15th best kicker is completely impossible to predict. They can all kick so they are simply dependent on situation which is impossible to know.

SO to answer your question...absolutely, wait on the big RB's. You should take a kicker first, then a defense, then a TE. You're more than welcome to join any of my money leagues!
