Re: Rumor: Redskins sign Kennan McCardell

From the Houston Chronicle on why KMaC was released (I'm on a roll here, people.):

One place the Texans didn't keep too many players was at wide receiver, where they settled on five players instead of six, forcing McCardell to look outside his hometown for his 17th NFL season.

"If I hadn't gotten hurt (hamstring), I would have gotten the opportunity I needed to make the team," said McCardell, who had just one reception for 16 yards in the preseason. "I understand it. It is what it is. I'm going to field some calls. I'm going to help a team this season. Hopefully, a playoff team. I know what I can do. I want to play another season."

The reason Kubiak was able to release McCardell, Johnson and Anderson was because of the emergence of rookie Jacoby Jones, who had the best preseason of anyone on the team.

"We drafted this kid in the third round," Kubiak said, "and had I been standing here today with him having a slow process of becoming a player in this league and helping this team, then there's no doubt we're keeping six.

"I think his growth in such a short period of time and what he's been able to do has helped us keep five wide receivers. That's the bottom line."
