Pro Bowl Before The Superbowl?????

I heard Chris Mortenson state that Godell want to put the pro bowl at the same venue as the superbowl AND make place it between the end of the playoffs and the superbowl. Has anyone heard this??!?!?

I'm pretty sure we discussed this several weeks ago, didn't we? I'll have to do a search

No, the players playing the SB don't get to play. They're playing in the biggest show of them all. They're still voted into the pro-bowl, they just don't get to play in it.

I think it's a good idea cause I really can't remember the last time I actually watched the pro-bowl.

Obviously those players wouldn't play in the pro bowl.

I like it. It would keep fan excitement up prior to the super bowl. Usually, I don't give a crap about the SB because I'm forced to wait two weeks for a game between two teams I don't care about.

I like the idea of that...but would a player voted into the Pro Bowl, that is in the Super Bowl still get the bonuses that they would have if the AFC/NFC won? I would hope thats the case.

In any event, I'm all for this if its true. I think its a nice little sampler/appatizer before the Super Bowl...instead of just some crap thrown on a week later after everyone stopped caring and is already looking towards the offseason.

Hate it -- the players who go get the added bonus of going to Hawaii with their families. Why should the SB city get all the fun?

Keep it the way it is.

Re: Pro Bowl Before The Superbowl?????

At first I did not like the idea, but after thinking about it, it actually might make some sense. The two weeks between the Conference Championship games and the SB are painfully long. The probowl where it is failing miserably in both attendance and TV viewers.
You increase the pay to the winning team and you might have a very hard fought game.
The only minus I see is the players that get the 1 to 3 week injury in the playoffs will not have time to recover and play in the game.

Re: Pro Bowl Before The Superbowl?????

I think they should leave it in Hawaii, but they should do it the week before the Super Bowl. I can't remember the last time I cared about the Pro Bowl (oh yeah, never) and this way it would give everyone something to do during the bye. I think the players from the Super Bowl teams who are voted in should still get the bonuses, but their replacements should head to Hawaii.

Re: Pro Bowl Before The Superbowl?????

I might actually watch it then. Let's face it, the NFL has the weakest "all-star" game of all the major sports. It's after the season, nobody cares because the excitement of the season culminates with the Super Bowl, and the players are just in Hawaii for a family vacation.

Re: Pro Bowl Before The Superbowl?????

Yeah, I don't think football really lends itself to an all star game format, at least not after the high school level, but this could stoke a little interest. That lonely sunday between the championship games and the superbowl is usually spent watching NFL films highlights all day anyway - wishing there was a real game on - so this could definitely increase viewership if nothing else.

Although something doesn't seem quite right about the two best team's players not being represented in the game.

Re: Pro Bowl Before The Superbowl?????

I think it would be great! It could be the kickoff to SuperBowl week and a lot of players spend the week before the SB in the host city anyway. It would be a huge boost to the host city in revenue too.

This would definitely increase the number of viewers. Excellent business decision. It makes me think, "why wasn't this thought of earlier?"
