Missed turnover opportunities turning into Touchdowns?

I wanted to know if anyone else has noticed that almost everytime we miss a chance to get a turnover, the opposing team magically seems to get in rythm and score on us.

The two instances that I've remembered off the top of my head are the two dropped INT's by Randall Godfrey against the Eagles that later resulted in two Eagle scores and the overturned call on the Rocky McIntosh Int. Also if memory serves me correctly the Dolphins forced us into overtime after Fred Smoot dropped an Int in week 1, but I'm not sure if that ones accurate.

Yes. You only get so many chances. Same thing with the overthrow to Moss on the post pattern on 1st and 10 from the 20 or so. Part of you says, "Three more shots". But another part of your brain gets kind of a sinking feeling and understands that that was your last, best hope and it was right there for the taking and it was missed. You have to take advantage of every opportunity you get, because the next play it might be you that's making the critical error.

You're not going to catch every INT and fall on every fumble. Overall I'm ok with our turnovers this year especially when compared to last year.

On the season we've picked off 8 passes (returned 2 of them for scores) and recovered 7 fumbles.

Last year for the entire season we had 6 picks and 6 fumble recoveries.

You're right about that and I'm glad that we're getting our turnovers this year, especially when compared to last year. However I can't help but notice that almost everytime we drop an Interception or let a fumble slip out of our hands it usually comes back to bite us in the ass, usually in the form of the opposing offense driving right down the field when just a second ago they were about to lose the ball.

I'm not mad about the dropped Int's. I'm mad at the fact that after the drop it seems the other team magically gains momentum.

And don't forget Dallas scored their first TD a few plays after Fletcher had an easy INT go through his hands.

I don't think there's anything magical about it. The NFL is a tough league and we have been playing excellent offensive teams. That's why they say turnovers are the most telling stat in the league, because they so often can result in a 14 point swing.

I totally see it. I think we just lose our focus after a huge high then an emotional let down. There are times in drives where they don't get the turnover or don't stop on a big third down. Right then they should awarded the six points to the other team because we fold like a house of cards.

It's momentum. The big mo is huge in the NFL. When you think you just seriously wounded your opponent but they come out of it unphased, that hurts you.

Re: Missed turnover opportunities turning into Touchdowns?

Well honestly, what has hurt us the most this year has been our play on 3rd down. Our defense will do a great job on first and second down, but then they will allow the opposing offense to pick up just enough yards on 3rd down. Or, they'll stop the offense on 3rd down, but commit a very avoidable penalty that gives the other team momentum. I think what we need to work on is keeping the momentum on our side. It all comes down to playing smart. You don't get many chances in this league.
