I will not make another bid on it until the final 20-30 minutes of the auction and have a set high price in my head and bid.

My experience on eBay is to snipe the bid in the last 5 minutes, albeit a little risky, but done properly (two windows open, one refreshing the time, the second with your max bid pre-loaded) it is very effective. I've won many a items in this method.
