Defensive improvement

I think our D is on the decline. Even before ST went out, teams have figured out how to beat G. Williams scheme. The Patriots game exposed our weakness, not to mention the fact that we lost C. Rogers. The D seems to hold everything in check in the first half, but does not adjust to the opponents offensive adjustments in the second half.

My question is: Why didnt G. WIlliams have our best corner S. Springs on Owens all day, with help over the top? At one point Torrence and Doughty covering the arguably the best reciever in the game, and it wasnt a blitz play!
