Because it brings up 4th down. You don't want to give them the chance to have another shot on 3rd down.

But it would have pushed them to the brink of out of field goal range and it would have been 3rd and goal from Waaaaaay out.

It'd be third down if they didn't, right? Why give them an extra down to get in the end zone.

Worst case scenario you give them another play and they throw a TD, that would be a disaster

because you may push them out of field goal range

Because we would have pushed them far out.

OOOOH wait...the hold was deep wasn't it? Nevermind...I get it now. The hold was at around the 5, so it would have put them at the 15. I thought the hold was on the line.

Taking it would have been 3rd down from the 22. Declining it was 4th from the 10. Why accept it? To give them another shot at the endzone?
