Re: Sean Taylor's contract

its like he retired. no cap relief, we take the full hit as if he was released. this isn't the first dead player since free agency happened, and that's how the others have been dealt with.

technically, lds could try to recoup a pro-rated portion of the signing bonus from taylor's estate, but that would be sh**ty and it's not going to happen.

Re: Sean Taylor's contract

I belive it all boils down to contractual law and what is in the contract. However I'm sure there is a rule somewhere in the NFL in regards to players kicking the bucket and how it would effect their cap. To make any team keep taking a cap hit when the player is no longer to perform ie..death is crazy. Danny might have to use the legal system. I would imagin that it might be a topic to come up at the owners meetings if this has not already been addressed.
I like to think the league if they even have to vote on it would give us a break on this one.

i agree. this is maybe a once in a lifetime thing with the league. there should be some relief. it will probably be discussed at the league meetings

its not once in a lifetime, it seems to happen every year.

denver, and new england also lost players this offseason.
san fransisco had a heat stroke death 2 years ago.
buffalo had a career ending injury this year.

its the same at retiring or being cut. full signing bonus comes due (which was minimal) and yearly salaries are canned. Taylor got most of his bonus money up front though, so i think the hit is only like 2mill.

If dan wanted to, he could try to get part of the bonus back from taylor's family, but he won't.

Re: Sean Taylor's contract

why the team would have to 'cut' taylor makes no sense..He is deceased so the common/humanitarian thing to do would be to erase his contract off the books. I remember when Darrell Green retired, it was listed on the skins website/roster that he had been cut. it's bullshit to me.

Everett wouldn't count here because the insurance would step in there somewhere. Although I see your point about losing a player.

Re: Sean Taylor's contract

We should be allowed to start over with that money. No harm done.
