Re: Redskins offer Gibbs 2-year Extension
You guys can laugh all you want about Cameron. If you guys knew back in 78 when Gibbs was OC for the Buccaneers you would of laughed too.

Re: Redskins offer Gibbs 2-year Extension
Sorry, Gibbs II has been mediocre thus far. Even before the ST tragedy this team han't been up to snuff and playing so so football. WE need to get Cowher or someone in the NFL already to replace him and hopefully demand the front office change its tactics. I love coach Gibbs, but I don't see him really building a consistent winner here unless the basic philosophy of building a winner is vastly changed. WE rely still too much on expensive FAs and not that much on the draft or lesser expensive FA's. My point is unless we get a GM or the front office in Skins park comes up with a truly viable plan to build a winner, Coach is doomed to end his second stint wrapped in mediocrity. The man deserves better than that. On top of that he is getting up there in age. I say let him fulfill his contract and get him to retire. Guy is a winner and a HOF coach, but if the front office has its head in the sand or still entertaining notions of grandeur with high priced FA busts, then nothing he can do is going to get us to the big dance. I mean look at the WR corp. Our top receiver is Cooley and we have all these supposed stud WRs at our disposal. It is totally whack!!!!!!

Re: Redskins offer Gibbs 2-year Extension
This is a bad move for the franchise. We're going to lose GWilliams, Blache, and maybe Saunders due to this contract extension. Gibbs hasn't gotten it done, we might squeak into the playoffs this year, but I personally don't see it.
Expect another two years of us building for.. now and losing. I hate this move. There's no denying what Gibbs did for this franchise in the 80s and 90s, but unfortunately for everyone it's not the Gibbs of the 80s and 90s. He's a legend for good reason, but he's had plenty of time and he's shown nothing but inconsistency.

Re: Redskins offer Gibbs 2-year Extension
...Hey..This is a house that Joe Gibbs built...Were not going to tell that man to leave his house you feel me!?...Only one other man has done close to what he did and that was way before him in George allen.....Norv Turner didnt even do that well.
Were not going to lose Saunders (allthough sometimes I WISH WE DID) or Williams Snyder has the money to hire whoever the hell he wants! |

Re: Redskins offer Gibbs 2-year Extension
That was my first thought but then I got to thinking, which I've been known to do that from time to time, and it occurred to me that Gibbs, Saunders and Williams contract will be up after next season. I'm guessing that Williams and Saunders will honor their commitments and finish their contracts. Once Gibbs original contract ends I am pretty sure they'll all sit down and either continue the experiment or part company. What I am saying is that a sit down will happen irrespective of Gibbs' extension so I don't really think it's a big deal.

Re: Redskins offer Gibbs 2-year Extension
I was originally ok with the extension offer but then I started thinking about it and I have changed my mind. Why offer it now? What good comes out of it. Its very clear that Snyder supports Gibbs, he doesnt need to offer the extension hours before the most important game of the season. Its a distraction, especially for Gregg Williams. There is no doubt in my mind he has to be thinking somewhat about leaving now. Even if it is a small thought in his mind that means hes not 100% dedicated to the game.
I think Parcells and the Dolphins are on to something. There will be a trend of "VP" type guys, with the experience of a Parcells or Gibbs, hired in the NFL. This position should be responsible for setting the vision, evaluation of personal, both on and off the field, and a final voice to settle internal disputes. There is simply too much responsibility for one person to do all this and coach the team. I feel Gibbs would be perfect in this role. In my humble opinion he should "move upstairs" and fill this role as Greg Williams becomes head coach in 2009 |

Re: Redskins offer Gibbs 2-year Extension
The best thing that can probably happen, is to keep as much of this team together as possible - from top tp bottom. Many are asking for Cam if he is fired. I do think that he has to be recognized as a better than decent QB coach for what we had been able to get out of Post Theisman quarterbacks - Schroeder and Rypien who were essential unproven. But, to that I say: Just because you are good on Fries, it doesn't mean you'll be good on the cash register. Unless there is movement on the coaching staff, there is no place to fit another offensive mind with a Head Coach, Assistant Head Coach of Offense, Associate Head Coach of Offense, Offensive Coordinator and a QB Coach. That doesn't even include three Offensive assistants and a Passing Game coordinator. Whew! Let's just keep this as it is, and build on a better than decent core.

Re: Redskins offer Gibbs 2-year Extension
I think the way he handle ST's passing, endless injuries to starters and the fact we are still in the playoff hunt is probably the main reason he got the extentsion. That a lot of managing for Gibbs he has done a great job. I have a new found respect for Gibbs.
