Re: Belichick is Coach of the Year
Please go back and re-read my previous post. What I said was this taping scandal will end up as a footnote in BB's highly successful career.

Re: Belichick is Coach of the Year
But you called losing a first round pick no big deal. You really think so? I mean maybe so, but there is no way you'd say the same if it happened to us.

Re: Belichick is Coach of the Year
Well with their success lossing a 1st round pick is probably not that big of a deal and I also thought that the loss of that pick was based on the out come of their season.

Re: Belichick is Coach of the Year
Gibbs shouldve gotten a vote because there is not one leader that would've lifted up the Redskins and bring them into the Post season. He is really good. I wouldn't say that he should've won coach of the year, but I think with everything that has happened, I think he should've been darn close!

Re: Belichick is Coach of the Year
Gibbs I think is getting remembered for Timeout Gate which cost them a game.
Plus there were several other situations earlier in the year like clock management and play calling that were magnified by the anti- Gibbs press earlier this years that probably removed him from consideration. There is no denying the great December Gibbs had. Unfortunately the season is more than one month long. The whole Patriots Cheating scandal is all about nothing. All teams at all levels have tried to gain an advantage by cheating whether it is the coaches teaching their players techniques to get away with holding, pass interference, receivers setting picks, Wr's pushing off. When I played we learned the other teams audibles and would watch the coach send signals in to try and learn a pattern. I think the only type of cheating that can be seen as major and could change the outcome of a game is if a home team tapped into the coaches communications/head sets or if a ref was paid off. Other than that it is just boys being boys. To single out the Pats is hypocritical. |

Re: Belichick is Coach of the Year
I still don't understand the rationale of everyone is doing it so it's ok.

Why single out one guy?
Because they are 16-0? Last edited by Defensewins; 01-04-2008 at 04:59 PM. Reason: Add a line. |

Re: Belichick is Coach of the Year
Bill Belichick singled himself out by cheating. The voters singles Bill Belichick out for recognition. So, that's why were singling him out for criticism and calling BS on the award.
I realize that a lot of people chalk up criticism of Belichick to his team's success. I'm going to call BS on that as well. I actually rooted for the Colts to go 16-0. Why? Because I like Peyton Manning and I respect Tony Dungy. And, more generally, I could care less if an AFC team that we don't play goes 16-0 in dominating fashion. I could care less if an AFC team we do play goes undefeated (save for the games in which we play them). So, again, I call BS on any notion that the Pats are disliked by many because they are winners. You don't hear people complaining about teams like the Steelers or the Colts when they are hot. Ask yourselves why. |

Re: Belichick is Coach of the Year
I remember the one big time i cheated. I was young. I got caught recycling a report from another kid from another year. That year, i ran for student president. I won the election, but they stripped me of it before they announced the winner because i was caught cheating.
And i think the school administration was correct in stripping me of my title. So i think that Bill hasnt earned it. It's just how i really feel about it. |

Re: Belichick is Coach of the Year
Just as Barry Bonds deserves to have an asterisk beside his record, so too does the other BB. I think that's the case, regardless of whether the cheating affected the on-field performance. It sends an awful message to say that we, as a society, reward those who try to win by any means necessary.
