Training Camp Location

The local T.V. news said the B&G may be looking to re-locate the training camp to Virginia Beach. I think it's wishful for all of us South of D.C., but hey, anything can happen, right?

I don't know which channel, I've searched WVEC, WTKR, and WAVY websites.
The Beach Blitz in VB is huge in the early summer, and there is a wonderful Sportsplex located there.

Mods, I've gone through the search mode here and not found a thread on this topic.

I realize that the upcoming game against da-haux is larger than life, but any news about the B&G here locally is both huge and awsome!

Personally, I don't see it happening because LDS would not want his beloved B&G outside of their normal home.
I think he likes the parking rights or something.

Eh you're young. Just live out of your car for a few days and party hard in between practices...

Re: Training Camp Location

This sports plex is in dire need of $. It was one of those things where the city said if we build it people will come. Yea, now it sits there loosing money every day. I do not see it happening. Where would they stay and its in the middle of Va. Beaches biggest tourist season so housing is even tougher.

Re: Training Camp Location

I'm not too familiar with the area, but are there college dormitories nearby? That is where most NFL teams stay during camp. Norfolk State is down there somewhere, Christopher Newport, ODU, etc. but again I'm not that familiar with all the locations. It is probably better logistically for the team to stay at the Park, but I didn't like it all that much the one year I went up there for training camp. Plus, Virginia Beach is Chris Cooley's favorite vacation spot (seriously Chris?)!

EDIT:

Redskins.com won't let me link to it, but if search :60 with Chris Cooley it will take you to my reference (stupid Redskins.com).

I don't know, can we trust Portis to behave at a training camp by a beach?

ODU is small and the team would have to travel 15 miles or so in heavy trafic. Christopher Newport is small and is about 20 to 25 miles away and they have to deal with even more trafic and the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel which at any giving time of the day can be a trafic night mare. The only thing that I could think of is them staying in a motel close to the site but I don't see that happening. If it did I could go by practice on my lunch break. Only other college is Norfolk State which is closer but the area around there is not the safest place in town.

Re: Training Camp Location

ODU has grown alot, they have tons of dorms, but i heard they would be staying around the convention center anyway.

Re: Training Camp Location

While I think this would be great, the VB Sportsplex is less than 5 minutes from my house (if it happens I will be hosting a cookout for WarPathers). And it makes sense for the City because the Sportsplex has been and still is a $$$ pit. Not sure why the Skins would do this though. In the article they mention they are 6 miles from hotel to facility. There are no hotels / colleges closer down here. The Convention Center area is at least 15 minutes away. Even the Founders Inn would be at least a 10 minute drive with no traffic. There would also need to be a LOT of improvements to the Sportplex to make it work for a professional sports franchise.
