Re: Rooney Rule Prospects
Why are they a joke? Every interview is meaningful because that's when you actually learn something about somebody. Player's are mostly evaluated based on potential and so should coaches. When Gibbs was hired in 80, he was a nobody as far as everyone was concerned.
Anywho, I hate it when people don't really know you yet have a negative perception of you.

Re: Rooney Rule Prospects
Well I don't think Joe Gibbs was a nobody. Maybe more of a nobody to the average fan, because back then the average fan didn't have the same access to the league that he/she does today.
I do agree that they are not a joke though. Apart from from the interviewer learning something from the interviewee, it also allows the interviewee to sharpen his interview skills.

Re: Rooney Rule Prospects
I personally don't think the Rooney Rule is a joke or that it is a bad idea. In fact, I think it is a good idea. There is an undeniable disparity between the "color composition" of coaching staffs and the players (no I don't think there is some grand conspiracy to keep minorities "down"). To the extent that the Rooney Rule affords minorities an opportunity to be heard, I have no problem with it.

Re: Rooney Rule Prospects
I just think it should be up to an individual organization. I think that if qualified black coaches are overlooked by some owners then their organizations will suffer from it. In this day and age those black coaches will be picked up by more sensitive/smarter owners who recognize that its not a race issue but rather a talent issue, and their organizations will benefit from it. I guess my view is that if you are qualified, regardless of ur color of skin, u will be given an opportunity (in the NFL).
