I'm all for giving coaches opportunities, such as Jim Zorn for QB Coach to Offensive Coordinator, but at the head coach level I'd rather these guys cut their teeth elsewhere (such as, oh I don't know, New York for seven years) before assuming the mantle of Redskins Head Coach.

I agree.....There have been a number of coaches in the league who have found their groove only after being fired. After looking at some numbers, the combined record in 2003 of coaches who previously had been dismissed (Belichick, Dom Capers, Tony Dungy, Dan Reeves, Marty Schottenheimer and Dave Wannstedt) was 58-53-1. Belichick and Shanahan have won Super Bowls after being fired, and Reeves has won an NFL championship. Marv Levy made it to the Hall Of Fame after being canned by the Chiefs.

Now, valuing head coaching experience dosen't help minority candidates for coaches because not many of them have it. But the truth is as I've stated before, team owners must be most concerned about giving their teams the best chance to win. Considering all relevant factors, HC experience is of vital importance.
