49ers | Sopoaga extension update
Wed, 27 Feb 2008 15:57:12 -0800 Updating a previous report, Matt Maiocco, of The Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the San Francisco 49ers signed DL Isaac Sopoaga to a five-year deal worth $20 million. Buccaneers | Team scheduled to meet with Coleman Wed, 27 Feb 2008 16:25:52 -0800 Jim Flynn, of PewterReport.com, reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are scheduled to meet with unrestricted free-agent DL Rod Coleman (Falcons) Thursday, Feb. 28. Buccaneers | Team meets with Crumpler Wed, 27 Feb 2008 16:21:59 -0800 Jim Flynn, of PewterReport.com, reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers met with unrestricted free-agent TE Alge Crumpler (Falcons) Tuesday, Feb. 26, and had him take a physical. Giants | G. Wilson might not return to team Wed, 27 Feb 2008 18:26:50 -0800 Mike Garafalo, of the Newark Star-Ledger, reports the New York Giants might not bring S Gibril Wilson back to the team. Wilson, who can become an unrestricted free agent Friday, Feb. 29, is looking for a contract that will pay him around $5 million per season. The Giants are unlikely to match what he is looking for, as they would think they are overpaying for a player who is a decent safety but not elite. bucs are trying to be this offseason's 49ers. coleman is good, but getting older, crumpler can still play (And they NEED a TE). wilson is nuts to think he's getting that much. he's not very good. |

Re: Latest FA news from KFFL
I know this is a little ironic but is there a way we could only authorize ThatGuy to post in this thread? I like how the thread works as a ticker of sorts where I can scroll through the headlines.

Jets | Team involved in talks for S. Rogers
Wed, 27 Feb 2008 19:44:59 -0800 Tom Kowalski, of Mlive.com, reports the New York Jets are involved in trade talks with the Detroit Lions regarding DT Shaun Rogers. Dolphins | Team interested in S. Rogers Wed, 27 Feb 2008 19:43:43 -0800 Tom Kowalski, of Mlive.com, reports the Miami Dolphins are showing interest in Detroit Lions DT Shaun Rogers, according to a source close to the situation. Buccaneers | Team has about $40 million in salary cap space Wed, 27 Feb 2008 20:25:05 -0800 The St. Petersburg Times reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have about $40 million in salary cap space when the free-agent market opens Friday, Feb. 29. okay, this is tonight's biggest news. the jets have been trying to run a 3-4 with a ton of 4-3 personnel, and it hasn't worked... at all. the #1 they used on a DT is a bust, and they desperately need a nose tackle, which they probably aren't going to find in the draft when they pick... so they need a name or good luck on a lower round pick, and the safer route is obviously more appealing, since they missed badly last time. meanwhile, the dolphins getting rogers would mean they're looking at either ryan, long, or long... i don't think they have enough to make ryan successful yet, so i'd bet on one of the longs. jason taylor, long, rogers would be crazy, and honestly locks at DE are harder to find. the other long (OT) is VERY safe too... outside chance at mcfadden, but peterson was much better and the guy they got aint bad, so i'm kinda doubting that idea. I guess signing AND drafting a DT might happen, but traylor (DT) and roth (DE) are the guys that needed to be replaced yesterday. they'll probably try to sign a WR like berrian and draft a QB like henne or flacco in the top of the 2nd round (one or both should be available). |

Re: Latest FA news from KFFL
whats stupid is sometimes WRs take 3-4 years, so he might actually figure it out after being dumped for a bag of chips.
of course, that staff probably has the best knowledge on his potential. |

Giants | Coughlin offered extension
Thu, 28 Feb 2008 09:00:27 -0800 ESPNews reports the New York Giants have offered head coach Tom Coughlin a four-year, $21 million contract extension. Eagles | Kearse released Thu, 28 Feb 2008 08:30:35 -0800 The Philadelphia Eagles have announced they have released DE Jevon Kearse. Vikings | Berrian on the wish list? Thu, 28 Feb 2008 05:51:11 -0800 Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports soon-to-be unrestricted free-agent WR Bernard Berrian (Bears) is expected to receive strong interest from the Minnesota Vikings when the free-agent market begins. Bears | Berrian turns down $25 million offer Thu, 28 Feb 2008 05:50:22 -0800 Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears WR Bernard Berrian, who is soon to be an unrestricted free agent, was offered a five-year deal from the Bears worth $25 million. The deal included $8 million in the form of a signing bonus. Berrian, however, turned the proposal down and will test the free-agent water. being the best WR that's a true FA, berrian will get a minimum of 30mill/5 year, 12mill guaranteed... if no one overpays. |

NFL | Salary cap for 2008 season is $116 million
Thu, 28 Feb 2008 10:31:05 -0800 The salary cap for the 2008 NFL season will be $116 million for each team. NFL | T. Green cleared to play in 2008 Thu, 28 Feb 2008 10:14:34 -0800 Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports unrestricted free-agent QB Trent Green has been cleared to play football in 2008. During an exclusive interview with FOXSports.com, Green said he was cleared to play last week by Dr. Cantu, one of the most well-known neurosurgeons in the country. Dr. Cantu said Green did not show any symptoms after tests taken by Cantu and said there is no reason that Green shouldn't play. Green said he wants to play again because he has a small window of opportunity. "I've talked to a number of former players and guys who have been long retired and some recently retired for help on this and they all said the same thing, 'If you can keep playing and you want to keep going then keep playing. You only have one window for your career and once that window closes, there's no going back. It's over.'" Trent said his family supports his decision to return to football and said a few teams have talked to him about signing him as the No. 2 quarterback, while other teams have spoken with him about competing for the starting job. He also said he has not had any symptoms of the concussion he suffered in the 2007 season. Packers | Team president expects Favre to return in 2008 Thu, 28 Feb 2008 09:50:36 -0800 The Hudson Star-Observer reports Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy expects QB Brett Favre to return for the 2008 season. Murphy spoke with Favre recently, and said a decision could be made as early as late Friday, Feb. 29, on whether Favre will return for the 2008 season. important but expected news... brett's return isn't official yet though. |

Titans | Troupe likely to become free agent
Thu, 28 Feb 2008 11:11:25 -0800 Adam Caplan, of Scout.com, reports the Tennessee Titans are likely to pass on re-signing TE Ben Troupe. Troupe is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent Friday, Feb. 29. Titans | Scaife receives tender Thu, 28 Feb 2008 11:10:23 -0800 Adam Caplan, of Scout.com, reports the Tennessee Titans placed a second-round tender on TE Bo Scaife Thursday, Feb. 28. Troupe is a guy we should seriously consider. Huge upgrade at #2 TE... 6'4" 270 lbs, good numbers for a #2 TE, age 25, shouldn't be very expensive. improves tyler ecker/todd yoder's spot dramatically. |

Re: Latest FA news from KFFL
i wouldn't really be against him, but there's a high chance he'll break 6mil a year, and that'd be counter-productive for us (filling other needs, down the road, so much cash at WR already, etc).
troupe is the first guy i've seen that i'd really like that's not franchised or trade bait. i mean, dyson and hackett are other guys i'd like to have too, but troupe would actually be a little bit more than a stop gap. |
