Saden, China does have more pollution than any other country. America is by far the most wasteful country in the world. China and India have horrible pollution problems, but a lot of it stems from them being poor and horribly overcrowded. US pollution is because we're lazy, greedy, and drive SUV's everywhere.

Why do you feel like the US should be immune from criticism? Why can't we :gasp: work on our problems at home, then branch out and help other folks solve theirs.

This is partially correct but the bigger reason is that our infrastructure is totally oil based. We have the world's largest interstate highway system and the majority of our goods travel via it as well as our populice using it to go and fro. Many other industrialized nations have more comprehensive public transportation and rail systems for moving goods. Plus we have the world's biggest economy so we simply have more volume to produce pollution. I am not making an excuse but the notion that we are just lazy and don't care isn't toally right.

Steveo, there's really no defending Bush on this one. Not a very professional way to behave. Not that we're surprised by that from him...

I do have a general hard time understanding those (like Gore) who make the environment their top priority when people's lives are at stake in Iraq, Afghanistan, and here at home with the stem cell research issue. Not to mention healthcare costs and access to care for our own citizens.

I can't understand how the environment could play a significant role in your voting decision, with all these more pressing concerns at hand this year. This isn't to say the environment isn't important, because it is, but as you set your priorities how can healthcare costs or the wars rank lower than the environment?

No matter what though, Bush should be acting like less of a yahoo in front of other world leaders.

Yea, we became the greatest nation on earth because we are lazy. Come on. All these other nations turn to us when they want money and then turn and laugh at us. I think what Bush did was what many here think. Do we have our problems? Sure, but I don't see people fleeing to other nations as they do to the US. I own two SUV's so I guess I'm in the lazy greedy group of Americans. Oh, and I own a boat so what other category do I fall into. At least I don't run around blaming other people like many on the left (Gore and Hollywood crowd) and own all these huge homes, fly around in gas burning jets, and all the other stuff they do and ask other people to do as I say not as I do.

I will say that fortunately, our economic interests do align with our environmental interests to some degree, which is good. We need to take advantage of wind power and develop alternative fuel sources for the sake of our economy. Luckily, those initiatives would also help the environment, which is a nice added bonus.

Didn't seem to go over well with several of the other world leaders. Nothing wrong with having a sense of humor, but know your audience or you make an ass of yourself. That joke flopped.

Your attempt at humor/sarcasm is going over about as good as Bush's did.

I wish Bush hadn't made his comment. It only adds fuel to the fire for those around the world who view us in a negative way. Very few people will look into the facts and just use Bush's stupid comment to reinforce their beliefs.

Do we have issues we need to address regarding the environment, absolutely. But we need to address those issues on our terms and not sign international agreements that would hurt US industry while other nations don't have to adhere to the same standards (Kyoto).

Why is everyone so worried about what everyone else thinks about us? Do you live your life worried about what everyone else thinks about you? If it was so bad here why do we have so many people wanting to come to the US? I think this stuff is just a bunch of BS. There is a special on the Discovery ch. talking about China & the US trade and how we depend on them as much as they depend on us. Everyone they interview over their seems very positive toward the US. One thing funny on that show is that they view Wall Mart as an up scale store.

How ironic. Our national debt is piling up every day, who's paying for it -- China. They own us. Frivolous spending (see Iraq war, yes -- we're stuck there now, but there was absolutely no reason to invade initially.) has set us back dearly.

It's Friday, maybe i'm being a little light hearted. Maybe not the best/appropriate joke in the world, but I think there's alot more to worry about than Bush's bad joke.

I really dislike Bush, but I gained a little respect for him when I read that he punched the air. It's true - he really doesn't give a F. You've got to admire that, at least a little.

wasn't this one of the main arguments against president Clinton? the office of president should be held to a higher standard? i can get as tacky as the next guy, but like schneed said, you MUST know your audience. you can take the boy out of the country, but never take the country out of the boy. Bush has been a disaster
