Re: Goodbye Doughty, Hello Horton!

Has anyone mentioned the fact he perhaps blew his assignment on that safety blitz that left a wide open guy in the flats that went for a big completion?

If a safety blitz if called...his assignment is the QB.

Yeah,
he will get burned and make mistakes, he is a rookie after all, in the long run barring injury this guy will considered a steal.

The question is was he supposed to come on that blitz or not, at first look it appeared that he shouldn't have.

Re: Goodbye Doughty, Hello Horton!

Nice game by Horton but it was just one game. A lot of the guys on the boards really seem to dislike Doughty and want to get rid of him, but it's too soon to tell. Horton is a rookie and even though he has a nose for the ball until he proves he can play great consistently Doughty still has that job, because even though Doughty isn't a playmaker, he is consistent.

I'd like to see if Horton can play like this consistently before I'd replace Doughty. Just look on the bright side, we have good depth at safety whether Doughty or Horton is lining up.

I saw that, but I wasn't sure if that was his fault or Springs fault.

A little heavy on the schmaltz, don't you think?

Re: Goodbye Doughty, Hello Horton!

The one reason that Horton can't start from my POV is his jersey number. What type of safety wheres 48? We need to get him a cool number, maybe he could trade with Brooks for 14.

I agree as well. But there is something to say about a player who has the knack to captialize and be in the right place at the right time. So many times I have seen balls like that fall to the ground and fumbles being recovered by the team that fumbled. Both of them are valuable to the team. But securing three turnover isn't a coincidence.

Re: Goodbye Doughty, Hello Horton!

Doughty is an average safety. From what I've seen, so is Horton.

Doughty has been on this team for a few years, and he's still average. Horton has potential, and we need to see what's there. IMO, Horton should start until he shows otherwise. I just don't see much (if any) drop-off by replacing Doughty with Horton.

Considering Doughty is almost completely deaf, his “average play” should be considered well above average in my opinion. The man has accomplished a lot. I'll give him that...

I agree. Horton is a ROOKIE and is looking comparable to Doughty if not better. So that is a good thing. He has upside and will only get better. Doughty is a veteran and propbably has reached his peak. Plus I think Horton has more speed and is more of a ballhawk which was evident in Saints game.

Oh no question Horton has a nose for the ball and this might be turn out to be a real nice draft pick. I like his size, athletism and instincts. But let's not give the guy the starting job just cause he made some pretty easy INT's. I just don't think Horton is ready to be a full time starter.
