Re: Skins in early contract talks with Hall to keep him in DC
You need at least three good CB's to be successful in the NFL. We only have three good ones:
1) Springs 2) Hall 3) Rogers All of our other CB's are not good enough. We would suffer a serious drop off in the level of play if Smoot or any of the other CB's were forced into action. Drafting a strong CB would require a top 15 pick. We have too many other needs to be creating a CB need. So please stop the trade and get rid of Springs & Rogers. |

DAMN RIGHT!!! I say give him 5 years 25mil... Crazy incentives... If he gets 5+ interceptions... give him another 2 mil.

Re: Skins in early contract talks with Hall to keep him in DC
I find it concerning that everywhere he's been he's been part of the problem. He's been called a cancer and has had attitude issues going all the way back to VA Tech. Of course, he's being a model citizen now, but for obvious reasons...money. Do an overwhelming majority like signing this guy to a long term contract? That's what it looks like. I guess all that stuff we spew about the Boyz signing malcontents w/ attitude issues is thrown out the window when it's "our" guy. Now D Hall is no where near Adam Jones or anything but he is a malcontent. People change, right?
Don't sign Hall. Go after someone else. You don't want someone who is a terrible team guy on the skins. Hey, if we do, I'll be rooting for him to keep his act together and perform. I'm just not optimistic based on past behavior. |

Re: Skins in early contract talks with Hall to keep him in DC
Jeez. How often do we hear guys say they want to wear the B & G? Rock says it and people love him for it - Hall says it and somehow it doesn't mean jack? Certainly we'll see what Hall is really about as the negotiations proceed but can we at least give the guy a chance. And let's put his past to rest. The Falcons were a nightmare until this year (indeed they're one of the best stories of '08) and the Raiders... c'mon.

Definitely. While Springs is the best of all of our corners; he's big and physical and can shut down TO type receivers about as well as anyone, he just can't stay healthy, and he's getting old which even furthers his risk. It's great to have him around, but he's just not worth the cap space.

Re: Skins in early contract talks with Hall to keep him in DC
First thing that everyone has to bear in mind is that we have the #6 ranked passing defense in the league (by yards) and one of the worst pass rushes in the league (according to sacks) so everyone who is hating on our cornerbacks right now needs to step back and put things in perspective.
Neither Hall nor Rogers are a #1 corner right now although they both are still young and have potential to grow. They are both very solid cornerbacks. There are only a handful of real shutdown corners in the league. We happen to have one actually in Shawn Springs but between his salary and his absenteeism I can't imagine him staying unless he is willing to renegotiate. In all likelihood they are going to resign Hall and extend Rogers. If Springs isn't willing to play ball (from a negotiating standpoint) then I think you will see him gone. Also, I don't know why everyone is hating on Fred Smoot. He is a solid third corner back. |
