i really respect shannahan, i would hate to see him head over to dallass. the one thing that team needs is a strong HC and i would be down right scared next year if he does join the boys.

Ok, I have a question. I totaly agree with you. I'm on the bubble about letting Zorn go. I believe a HC needs atleast 2-3 yrs to impliment his scheme before dumping, but I'm not impressed with some of the other things we are not seeing from Zorn; Like adjusting during games, adjusting at half time, adjusting during the season. I did not see anything that would lead me to believe he has the ability to adjust. This is a major item a coach needs to be able to do. Read what the other team is doing and change your scheme or rather tweek it to keep the other team off balance. All he did was go out and run his scheme and win lose or draw he stuck with it. Then later he called it lack or execution.

Now my question....The other teams that changed coach's this yr....did they have to change a whole offensive scheme or did the owners bring in coach's that ran the same similar scheme? I ask this cause Atlanta is in the play offs, Miami is in the play offs. Two piss poor teams last yr and they are now in the play offs. Why? are we lacking talent, or was it we had a whole new scheme to learn, or was it lack of coaching ability, or do you think it was something else?

Trust me I'm not busting on you. I really don't know the answer. I can't figure it out. Why is it that the Skins who have been in the play offs are out and a 1-15 team last yr is in? I don't get it. What happened between the first half of the yr and the second? injuries? Why wasn't there an adjustment made? I just don't get it. Why is it that for a "Passing offense" Zorn is bringing us we could not do better then 10 yrd passes? Timing and blocking? Nice but we have been in this predicament for the last 5 yrs and Gibbs system and Saunders system was meant run offenses with down the field passes. not 5-10 yrd passes with a bunch of screens thrown in. Gibbs did not do that in his first tenure. Yes an occassional screen but he took chances passing down the field.

Excuse after excuse. Brunell can't pass beyondl 10 yrds. JC is learning the scheme. Too small of WR's. No #1 WR. Terrible pass blocking. I'm getting into the act as well in saying it's Hixon. I just don't get it.

Re: Shanahan out in Denver

There's significant turnover in the playoff teams each year. I think there's 7 new teams this year and I remember hearing there's almost always at least 5 new teams each year. So there's no sense in trying to figure out why a team goes 1-15 one year and makes the playoffs the next.

As long as JJ thinks he knows personnel I don't think there's alot to be concerned about with Dallas. And don't forget about TO, they'll continue to be a weekly soap opera with him there.

Re: Shanahan out in Denver

^Sorry.lol. just venting. I know I'll end up with the typical responces....

It's Snyder
It's Vinnie
It's Zorn

I know we have rehashed this over and over in some of the other blogs. It's just it looks like every yr someone comes up with a new excuse and it seems or looks like the team addresses that problem. Then we come out the next yr with the same results and everyone comes up with a new excuse. If your a "It's Snyder or Vinnie" person I guess you might as well resolve that it's not going to change. If your a "It's Zorn" type of person I guess you have one more yr to waite. If your a "It's O/D-Line" we only have what 4 picks this yr so I hope we address the need. keep in mind one player does not make a team and if we pick up one good O and D lineman then what if they get hurt? we suck again.

it would be scary to give him that much talent! I bet he could bring the cowboys to the SB in two years! Well, maybe not with Romo.

Re: Shanahan out in Denver

I read that Denver might be looking to hire a GM as well. Since the new HC won't have as much power as Shan did.

The Falcons and Ravens both changed their offenses. The Dolphins also run a new system but, their offensive coordinator Dan Henning was Chad Penningtons OC/QB coach with the Jets during his rookie year so the offense was new to the team not to the QB.*

The question your asking doesn't have a simple answer. But, since you ask
i'll give you my 2 cents worth and stick with the offensive side of the ball..

The other teams that changed HC made wholesale changes the Skins attempted to maintain continuity. Meaning the new HC was picked early enough and along with their general managers put together a good veteran staff of there choosing. *Zorn inherited most of the staff (none of which knows the WCO)* and didn't bring in a veteran OC* (IMHO b/c he didn't have enough time to find one) so he asked his friend Sherman Smith to come and help him.

Smith, Harbaugh and Sparano are rookie HC but each has a *veteran
offensive coordinator/playcaller and a QB coach.* This IMO allows them time to focus attention on the big picture of being a HC. Zorn has a 1st time OC who is new to the offense that Zorn is bringing in, Zorn doesn't have a QB coach but leans on 1st time offensive assistant Chris Meidt from Div. III St.Olaf.

*Those teams also have General Managers that know football. Ozzie
Newsome, Thomas Dimitrov (from New England) and of course
Bill Parcells are proven football guys.* We have Vinnie whose hands are tied by Dan Synders influence, IMO.

Also all 3 teams are *strong on the offensive line despite injuries,
all 3 teams commit to running the ball, and protecting their respective QBs.*

**Kind of a big deal**
Quote:
What happened between the first half of the yr and the second? injuries?
IMO to the offensive line play declined due to injuries and plain old ineffectiveness compounded by lack of depth/prepartion (i.e Chad Rinehart, letting Crummey go to another team, not playing Heyer sooner, not getting Clark and Geisinger involved earlier)

The decline in the offensive line affects Zorn playcalling less spread sets, fewer downfield passes fewer 5 & 7 step drops, where the pass-pro cannot hold up. Zorn is forced into using quick rhythm 3 step drop passes (i.e. hitches, comebacks, slants, curls) which require our receivers to make plays after the catch.(They didn't) Our base offense began to look like other WCO blitz audibles and checkdown plays.

Teams scout and adjust to the fact that we don't run deeper routes and 'squat' on our short passing game. Which leads to an offense that is predictable and that has little to no room for error because it can only move the 5 yards at a time.

Without any threat downfield defenses are free to put an 8th man in the 'box'. Our offensive line isn't/wasn't stout enough to consistently run against these fronts.

Consequently the offense over the second half of the season was lousy.

Thank You. Yes I only asked about Offense cause defense really was not all that bad. A coulple of DL to collapse a pocket and we are back in business.

Re: Shanahan out in Denver

If I were Snyder I'd fire Zorn today and get this guy here. Shanahan is not a good GM but he's one of the best game day/QB coaches in the NFL. I have no doubt that he'd get JC playing like a top NFL QB.

SHANAHAN SNUBS THE JETS
Posted by Mike Florio on January 3, 2009, 11:55 a.m.

The Jets reached out to former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan.

And Shanahan rebuffed them.

So reports Gary Myers and Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News, citing an unnamed source.

Shanahan told NFL Network that he plans to take two weeks off before speaking with any prospective employers.

The Jets are now expected to focus on Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.
