Interesting comments about Moss and Randle El not wearing any pads. No wonder why they don't go into the middle of the field often.

Wait you mean like no Butt pads, knee pads, or hip pads?

Re: Shawn Springs on ESPN980 now

I would be very surprised if Springs is on the team next season. He has not re-structured his contract for two seasons in a row and is just costing huge dollars. $7 mill for a CB who plays only half or 3/4 of a season?

Springs is telling the truth now because he's hoping for a commentator future. His salary could hire Hall and some of the pass rush he wishes we had.

Springs is just angling to maximize his income. All his talk is based on that. He's trying to put the Skins on the spot and he's actually pretty good at it. By claiming that all the CBs are unhappy, he makes himself more valuable. I don't think there will be any mass defection and because of that, I don't think any one of them is indispensable.

Another little nugget: Doc Walker asks, "Can Jason Taylor be the Jason Taylor of the Miami Dolphins?"

Springs after a very long pause: "I have to plead the Fifth on that." In the same sentence, Springs also mentioned how their defense takes great pride in their ability to stop the run, and how the guys in the secondary demand an incredible standard of play among any new corners who come to this team.

He also said that Zorn needs to do a better job of bringing the team together, specifically, he has to establish a better relationship with Portis.

Springs is being very forthright in this interview.
They demand a high standard of play for the CORNERS? Ray Lewis demands a high standard for anyone who steps onto the field to play defense for the Ravens. That's why they are good year in and year regardless of who's playing for them. Need leaders on this team.

Nice to hear what a stud Fred Davis is. I wonder what this is based on, since we all know the rookies were incapable of running plays at full speed. They're still working on "grasping" the offense. Maybe we should start drafting Rhodes Scholars who can comprehend the complex offensive scheme or at the very least draft guys who went to schools where route running was required of them. Did we draft Rugby players or something?

Deezel:

You are hearing about these young players like Davis showing "potential" in practice. In jock-speak "potential" is the polite word for "hasn't done jack-sh*t yet". And practice is very different from Sunday afternoon; lots of NFL QBs complete 85% of their passes in practice; that rarely happens on a Sunday afternoon.

I'll bet that in practice Malcom Kelly does not drop half the balls that hit him in both hands. The reason I'd make that bet is that if he did they would never have drafted him and they'd probably have cut him by now. But we've seen what he does in the games...

Devin Thomas is still working on understanding the offense? After 5 exhibition games and 16 regular season games and a bye week he is still working on getting the picture? Perchance there is another problem...

I believe Devin Thomas had 3 offensive interference calls this year against him - - more than the # of TDs he caught by the way. MAYBE Thomas is a speed receiver only and needs to push off in order to get open. If he has speed, you would never see that in college games but in the NFL the CBs are as fast as he is and are generally good at man coverage. Maybe what he needs to understand is how to get open? Time will tell...

Like how you broke down the practice potential. I guess its how you look at it, but if someone were to tell me I see the potential it would motivate me to work harder. Everyone is different, but I see a team as a place where you build up people and not tear them down. Again, just me and I also believe that the next DE we draft will be a HOFer.

Regarding Devin Thomas, I think two of his offensive interference calls were when he was blocking too soon on WR screens to Moss. So its not a matter of him being Michael Irvin, which I would love, but just calming down and executing. With Devin, I feel like its just a matter of him getting reps, he's got the size and speed, but he needs to focus.

I have no problems with anything Springs said, but I don't want to play the blame game. I want my Skins winning.

Same.. how can you be completely positive at the moment? I'd rather not be lied to.

Re: Shawn Springs on ESPN980 now

Interesting comments in this thread about Springs sort of playing the FO with comments about CB dissatisfaction. Maybe the FO is already moving in a direction and Springs is encouraging it w/ his comments. If the rumors of shopping Los for a pick are true then yeah Springs is probably brought back. Huge mistake IMHO. Huge. Keep an older, injury prone player at really an embarrassingly high salary (because no other franchise would pay so much) and trade away young talent that we could probably sign for a 3-4 deal for much less than the cost of keeping Springs. Jeez.

I didn't see much of Jacobs in college but I remember watching several USC games where Davis was just a beast. I hope he gets his act together, learns the playbook and hits the off season hard.

Want to find out who will be back or not look at the drop-down under "Team Info" and go to Salary Cap info, then at the bottom tabs "Release Fees":

Springs - unless he massively restructures, which he's been hesitant to do on the past, Gone. Cap savings $ 6M. Can't stay healthy, has medical issues with family, smart guy with potential after football.

Jason Taylor - Gone. Cap savings $ 8.5M. Who needs a washed up DE for that kind of money?

Carlos Rogers - going nowhere unless a monster trade is offered for him. Cap HIT $ 1.4M to release or trade. Solid CB, who if he didn't play with boxing gloves on would be a borderline Pro Bowl CB.

D. Hall - Currently unsigned, just depends on where the market goes for him. He's a regional guy (VT) so we may have a slight advantage, but don't overpay or load him with a huge signing bonus. He has shown in the past he can be a very negative influence in the locker room. If he isn't motivated his level of play drops dramatically.

Marcus Washington - Probably gone. Cap savings $ 4.5M. Injury issues, getting "long in the tooth".

Philip Daniels - Gone. Cap savings $ 2.2M

Casey Rabach - Probably gone unless he restructures, if we can find a better solution at C. Cap Savings $ 2.35M

Returning: Samuels, Jansen, Moss, Carter ARE, Portis, Cooley, R. Thomas, Fletcher, Betts
If LOS can catch he's borderline? Most of this season he's been borderline probowler, I like the kid and he improves every year he was playing well last year when he got hurt against new england. I think the talk of him leaving is stupid. Why pay so much for springs to play 8 gms. When you can pay Los and Hall less, their much younger and very talented. Hall can teach Los how to catch and we'll be very young and set in the secondary with Landry and Horton for a long time.

I totally agree, we have an area set, let's leave it alone and focus on the lines.
