I suppose the problem isn't that he's got a poor work ethic, because he's clearly getting better with experience, but that he's just lacking a few skills that all elite corners have: route recognition, the ability to close on a dime, and stuff like that. He's certainly a good player, Oakland days aside, but he's also a known quantity at this point, and he's not known as a special, elite player.
I won't use the word average around him, because he does do some skills exceptionally well. But he also has glaring weaknesses that we can't ignore since NFL QBs don't.
