I just really don't see him or his agent bending over backwards to help the skins after taking this long to get a deal done. Not to mention adding huge salaries on the end of a deal for ego is worthless to most players, since they want to actually get paid, and backloading our deal just makes our offer less competitive.

I think 5mill is more realistic, unless that option bonus is like, 20mill or something stupid.
If the contract is sufficiently backloaded or loaded with option bonuses, it doesn't matter how long the contract is. The player and player agent will know that when the salary/option bonus is scheduled to jump, the team has a decision to make: keep him or cut him. Either the player gets kept for a huge base salary (Jason Taylor this year) or cut and allowed to seek employment elsewhere. It's a win win for the player. DeAngelo Hall had a 7 year contract with the Raiders. Nate Clements signed an 8 year deal with the 49ers. Asomugha just reupped with the Raiders for 6 years.

In football players don't worry about long contracts because they're not guaranteed. If they actually play out the contract, they get friggin rich. If they get cut, they end up with another shot at a new contract.
