B. Mitchell's record broken

As most of you probally know Brian Mitchell's record of combined net yards was broken Monday by Jerry Rice. Mitchell had the record of 23,330 yards. Rice ended up with 23,351. Mitchell is Canton bound and is a great person who got the shaft a couple of years back. Crazy to think of Mitchell's numbers since he was never really a solid full time starter. Just shows with a lot of heart and patience good things come to good people.

As much as I love Mitchell and was really miffed when we cut him (He shoulda been here till he called it quits) - I don't think he is Canton bound. I bet that most fans outside Washington even knew he had the record. He may be nominated but I don't think he will get serious consideration - as I recall there are a lot of guys coming up in the next few years that could keep him out.

Hey, if Art can't get in - I just don't see Mitchell making it.

Rice has been an amazing player throughout his career. Mitch was a good player too, but not even close to compareable to Jerry Rice!

It also shows how terrible most of those 90's teams were. You only rack up those kinds of numbers as a return man if you can't stop anyone.

Mitchell was excellent player, but I don't think HOF material. As a previous post indicated, most people outside the NFC East don't even know Brian Mitchell exists.

I am not sure as to how anyone is comparing Rice to Mitchell, but think about it this way. Rice was pretty much always on the field when the offense was out there, meaning that he had a ton more oppertunitys to catch or run with the ball. Where as Mitchell really only got the ball on punt and kick returns, and depending on how the D is playing really dictates how many punt and kick returns he will get a crack at.

Other than some of the "trick" plays on offense Mitchell really never played that much offense, but he made the most of it when he got the ball on special teams.

kick returns should net about 20 yards for a top notch reveiver like mitchell. figure you get 3 a game if they only score two TDs. Add in punts and it's not hard to average what most good WRs average. Especially when you have a team that gives up a lot of points.

Ok with that being said look at how long it took the best reciever to play the game to break his record.
