I say a big no on extending JC because he has done little to get one. He is soso at best. Now if he burns up the league then he is going to make the Skins pay be the odds are that will not happen.

We can win with Campbell whether he's voted to the Pro Bowl or not. We did with Doug Williams and Mark Rypien, neither were "franchise", big-name QBs, but we built a great team around them.

Sacrificing the years we've invested in Campbell and giving away future draft picks will not allow us to accomplish this again. Cutler's price and risk are both too high.

Why would you extend Campbell if we haven't already? If we thought that he was worth extending we wouldn't be looking at Cutler, obviously. If we don't change QBs this year there's a very good chance we will next, unless Campbell plays lights out all year long.

I'm confused...when EXACTLY did Campbell become trash?

Most of us had high expectations of Campbell going into last year, and he showed glimpses of greatness. Yes, he had his bad days, but as most of us pointed out already, that was due to a large number of factors including oline and coaching.
So I get the Campbell for Jay Cutler trade rumors cause people want better than what they have, problem is, not sure Cutler is indeed better, or a product of a MUCH MORE wide open offense. (note the ints) Although that is a comment for another thread.
My biggest beef is the amount of "Redskins to trade up to get QB in draft" suggesting Sanchez. And of course those on here that don't think a lick of Campbell. What the hell happened people? When all of sudden did Campbell go from being a "promising qb with limitless potential", to a bum that we need to replace or run out of town on a rail?

When people on the internet said so, I guess.

I remember when people on the internet were Patrick Ramsey fans.

RedTempleSkin -- You mean a product of virtually the same offense we run here in DC? Oh what a shame.

No one is calling Jason Campbell trash. Jason Campbell is an okay QB in the NFL. He's a serviceable starter -- but he's not exactly a franchise QB. I think, as Redskins fans, we often end up over valuing our players. Every player that takes a snap in the NFL has the potential to be great, and often shows glimpses. But it really comes down to performance. While in football everyone must act as a cohesive unit, responsible players are also very responsible for their play.

For instance, Jason Campbell gets sacked a lot. Part of this responsibility falls on the offensive line. Part of it also falls on Campbell. He's always trying to make a play, thus sometimes takes the big hit. It's a trade off. No one is calling Jason Campbell a bum, but when you compare him to a QB with the stature of Cutler, Jason Campbell is simply in a class below.

Look at their stats last year, now compare the fact that Campbell is playing in a brand new system that has taken other greats (Young, Favre etc. years to learn) and Cutler has been playing in the same system for a few years now. They have next to identical quarterback ratings, Cutler threw for a 1000 more yards on the back of 100 more passes attempted. However, he was two and a half times more likely to throw an interception compared to Campbell. Now I concede that he also doubled up the number of touchdowns that JC had but again, this is comparing a player who is completely comfortable to someone who is brand new in the system. Finally, throw in the fact that JC is constantly rumored to be on the trading block, about to be replaced etc. and all you hear is he is working hard and wants to lead the team to a superbowl. Denver's gm discusses the possibility of replacing Cutler and he bitches and whines his way out of town...when you think franchise quarterback, what kind of attitude do you want, the first or the latter?

I agreed with you that we shouldn't make the trade and that JC should continue to be our QB, so I don't know what we're debating here. I simply said he'd be good but not great. Good is fine with me.

We haven't really given Campbell the tools he has needed to succeed. Giving him new systems / new coaches, small WR's, a banged up Oline, and worst of all, no real leash seems to be unfair. How do we know he isn't as good or better than Jay Cutler? Keep in mind people around the league were ready to trash Cutler until they found out he was a diabetic and just needed to control his insulin.
When people are ready to ship our starting QB off and ready to draft a kid to replace him they are basically saying he is a bum. I understand your points, I can see the lure of Cutler, but I am just not sure this is the answer...especially considering we would be taking a HIT to do so.

Do not pay players until they earn it.

Re: If we don't get Cutler, should we extend Campbell?

if we liked JC we would have extended him already...he's proven to be a mediocre QB so far, and if we get a chance to get Cutler...we will. So i'm planning on seeing Cutler in a Redskins Uniform next year. I think JC has had ample time to prove some kind of brilliance...i'm so tired of seeing him overthrow recievers and making awful reads...although I know a lot of that falls on the OL.
