Obama's speech to students today

Here's a link for anyone interested in reading what he's going to say at noon to the students across America.

Re: Obama's speech to students today

So why is this a big deal? The President encouraging kids to work hard and stay in school? Oh the horror!

The problem came when Obama's staff or who ever came up with the idea wanted to have the children write an essay to themself on what they can do to help Obama. I think if they would have asked the kids to write on what they could do to help the US there would not have been the fuss. I'm sure after all this attention they have reviewed his speech and changed and removed anything that would be controversial. Not sure why parents are now bitching about this when they send their kids to goverment run schools, have teachers that are goverment employees, and most belong to the left leaning teachers union. That one reason my children go to private schools.

I don't know, I think the outrage runs deeper than that. I wonder how many parents who are up in arms over this have actually read what he's going to say.

I think it was just released today or yesterday so most could only go on the essay thing. From what I have heard the speech is pretty much go to school and work hard kind of stuff. At this point it really does not matter if he changed the speech or not if this is correct no harm done.

I'm republican (generally) and I think it's great. Others have done it, and all should do it and more often.

Over his speech. Some parents are holding their kids out of school because of it.

i didn't even know about this speech, till i saw it on the warpath. i think it's good for presidents to speak to the children, as long as they say the right things.

I hate that, basically brainwashiing by parents. Let the child go and get exposed to a unique event which will never probably happen again to that kid.

I would let my kid go and hear Pat Robertson if he telling my kids to work hard, be good kids and study.

Re: Obama's speech to students today

It's going to be on TV in a few mintues. The speech, which wasn't revised, was released around noon yesterday. The uproar was surrounding some language in the cirriculum, not the speech itself. It said something to the effect of, write the president and let him know how you can help him/country. The White House pulled it and that was that.

It's a sad day when the President of the United States can't address our school children with a positive message about individual responsibility, hard work, and staying in school. Thankfully, and rightfully, some noteworthy Republicans have taken a stand and basically called this silly.

I think most would agree with that the problem came when they wanted the kids to write an essay to themself on what they could do to help Obama (which in my opinion is making it political) when they could have said write an essay on how to help the US. I also as a Rep. don't have a problem with him talking to the children but I do feel it should not include anything that could be seen as political. That could also be looked at as trying to brainwash kids. I have heard that parents are also keeping their kids home from school so they can see the speech which makes no sense as they can see it when they get home and Obama wants them in school.

But Bush Sr. looked into a camera and said the same exact thing?
