I know many of us were uspet that Monk was left out of the hall, but rest easy, because Dr. Z has made me feel so much better.... Dr.Z and GMANC711 present to you the reason that Art Monk did not make the hall of fame this year.....

"SI.COM: How about Art Monk?

Dr. Z: Monk was hurt by Michael Irvin being eligible this year. It's done alphabetically, and Irvin was presented before Monk. I think that really hurt him."

The Reason Art Monk got f*cked again, is because M comes after I in the alphabet.

Heres the link if anyone wants to read that bullcrap.http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200....qa/index.html
This is completely f*cking absurd!!! How about voting by # of years eligible (oldest to newest) instead of alphabetically. No, that would actually make sense...
I am glad Irvin didn't get in either, but the fact that he got closer is f*cking unbelievable. Monk was (and is) the consumate professional that did his job and let the other flashier guys grab the headlines. And I guess because of that, he is now getting screwed by the people that wrote those headlines.

He's ranked in the top 20 of all-time QB's in 3 different categories, completions, passing yards and passing TD's.

He was a 7 time Pro Bowl selection and 2 time league MVP.

I'd say numbers wise he stacks up pretty well, and his Super Bowl win where he tossed 6 TD's (Super Bowl record) is just icing on the cake.

Personally I can't argue with his selection, just my opinion of course.

Matty you do make a pretty convincing argument, but just for the facts Steve Young had 33,124 passing yards and is ranked 19th out of the top 20. Which is less than the likes of Warren Moon(49,325), Vinny Testaverde(44,475) and Steve DeBerg(34,241)

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/alltim...?cat=passyards

As for completions he is currently ranked 17th out of the top 20 with 2,667. Warren Moon - 3,988
Vinny Testaverde - 3,631
Steve DeBerg - 2,874 Tied with Jim Kelly

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/alltim...s?cat=complete

Passing touchdowns, Steve Young is also ranked at 17 out of 20 with 232.
Moon - 291
Testaverde - 268
DeBerg - not in the top 20, (196)

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/alltim...s?cat=tdpasses

Now, why isnt Moon in the HOF? Better yet should Vinny Testaverde be inducted in the first year that he is eligible. After all these two are not only in the top 20 but in the top 10 of these major QB catagories.

I am not saying that Young should not be in the HOF, all I am saying is that he should not have be a 1st year eligible canadaite(SP). Also it didnt hurt Young any by having the best WR of all time to throw to.

Moon probably does deserve some serious consideration, it's hard to look at his career numbers and not be impressed. Sad to say but if he had a ring he'd probably be in by now. As for Vinny I think they'll use the same thought process they're using on Monk right now, he's in the Hall of very good but probably not Hall of Fame worthy.

I noticed you didn't address some of the other key stats regarding Young, mainly the 6 time passing champ and 2 time NFL MVP. Young had his career cut short due to injury, but I think the passing champ titles and 2 NFL MVP's are great indicators of the kind of player he was. For a 7 year stretch he was one of the elite QB's in the game.

I can't argue that much against him being one of the elite QB's in the game at one time, all I am saying is that IMO he wasnt at the level of other players who got nominatied in there 1st year of eligibility. I dont believe him to be as good as Elway or Marino(SP) or on the same level as Sanders. But that is my own opinion. Was Steve Young an elite QB to play football? Yes, but like I said not as good as others.

He definintely didn't have the kind of career that guys like Elway and Marino did longevity wise, but if his career wasn't cut short due to the concussions I think he would stack up similarily with Elway and Marino numbers wise.

I do understand your view, and my thought process was along the same lines until I took a closer look at his numbers and accomplishments. To me the 2 league MVP's along with his incredible SB performance are the clinchers. Take those away and yeah he's probably not a first ballot inductee.
