2009 Draft Re-do
SI decided to re-do the draft to make the picks fit into the current year's occurrences and performances of each team.
Interesting idea, poor execution. Look who they have going to the Skins. Horrible pick, but of course, it would have been Vinny's pick so maybe it is not far-fetched. If Orakpo were already off the board, they would have drafted Rey Maualuga. They were very interested in him, but couldn't pass on Orakpo. That was a no-brainer that even a no-brainer like Vinny could get right. Michael Oher to Lions, Percy Harvin to Chiefs - Don Banks - SI.com

Re: 2009 Draft Re-do
Only if we had already traded Vinny for Bruce at the time.

Re: 2009 Draft Re-do
Don Banks' ability to still have a horrible mock draft, even with the ability of hindsight, never ceases to amaze.
Gotta have them quarterbacks who can't play picked inside the top ten.

Re: 2009 Draft Re-do
I'm not making the case that Stafford was a mistake, only that playing a franchise quarterback before you have an offensive line to protect him is putting the cart before the horse. Stafford has gotten killed this season (24 sacks in 10 games), and it makes more sense for Detroit to have gone for Oher, the draft's top-performing tackle, to protect someone's, uh, Blind Side. Oher has played well at both right and left tackle for Baltimore this season, and scouts say he'd be a consensus top 5 pick if the draft were re-held today.

Re: 2009 Draft Re-do
Exactly. Though I will say that I can understand Orakpo falling to 11 based on what teams were looking for. A lot of 3-4 defensive teams and guys looking for playmakers on offense would have pushed Orakpo down, even in hindsight.

Re: 2009 Draft Re-do
That is the stupidest thing I ever saw. Brian Orakpo has 11 sacks. Sacks are the most highly prized stats other than QB in football. If they knew how good he was going to be, he might have been picked in the 2nd or 3rd pick. Detroit did the right thing.

Dude...It's Don Banks, that guy is an absolute idiot, he never gets anything right. In this economy, its a wonder that someone could be so bad at what is a pretty easy job and still keep working

Re: 2009 Draft Re-do
Orakpo not in Banks' top-10 after posting 11 sacks in 13 games? Don Banks is an absolute idiot.

Re: 2009 Draft Re-do
Even after our struggle's along the offensive line he goes RB with our first pick. Is this Vinny's new job?
