On a related note, I think ppl need to chill the F out with the "no free agency". A good team is built through both the draft and free agency. Just because our incompetent front office has made terrible deals for free agents, doesn't mean that we shouldn't get any free agents now that we have what appears to be a competent FO.

Re: 2010 Free Agents
Bruce Allen uses free agency to build the nucleus of the team, at least he did in Tampa Bay.

Re: 2010 Free Agents
Well, we will need to see how that's going to work out here with Shanahan. As I said, we need a balance of drafted rookies and free agents. The problem is that we're still haunted by terrible deals such as the trades for Lloyd and Duckett.

Re: 2010 Free Agents
In that aspect, Allen has always been good about trades, rarely trading draft picks for other teams veterans.

Re: 2010 Free Agents
I guess that was Bruce Allens way of rebelling. "I'll show you Dad, when I'm a GM I won't trade draft picks for aging over the hill veterans."
"Saving draft picks? What kind of liberal boo-hockey is that?"

Peyton Hillis
At best a guy who can get over 1,000 yards rushing. At worst a replacement for Mike Sellers.

Re: 2010 Free Agents
If we do in fact switch to a base 3-4 defense, I think we have to hope to nab a guy like UFA NT Casey Hampton to anchor the defense. I just don't trust Haynesworth to play NT, especially since he missed 25% of the season due to injury and 20% of the snaps in the games in which he appeared. Besides, he's likely be more effective at DE than NT in a 3-4 scheme.
I also think we'll need another MLB. I don't see too many viable 3-4 MLBs available in free agency, but perhaps Brandon Spikes will fall to the top of the second. So, my dream offseason would look something like this.... Trading the 4th pick for Denver's 1st (11th overall) and first 2nd rounder (45th overall). Drafting OT Bruce Campbell with the 11th pick Drafting ILB Brandon Spikes with the 37th pick Drafting OT Jason Fox with the 45th pick Acquiring UFA OG/C Ben Hamilton to compete with Casey Rabach and Randy Thomas Acquiring UFA NT Casey Hampton to anchor the 3-4 defense |
