Hicks: chemistry matters
Hicks: chemistry matters | Washington Examiner
Seems like he has the right attitude and won't have trouble adjusting. |

Re: Hicks: chemistry matters
Hicks sounds smart and experienced. I wonder if he's immediately the best guard/right tackle on the roster?

Re: Hicks: chemistry matters
After beginning his career with the Philadelphia Eagles, Hicks was a key member of Minnesota's offensive line the past four seasons. While serving as the primary backup at guard and tackle for the Vikings last season, Hicks, for the first time in his career, appeared in every game for the NFC North champions. He started twice at right guard and once at right tackle.

Artis Hicks
#79 Birth Date November 28, 1978 Birth Place Jackson, TN Height 6-4 Weight 335 lbs. Age 31 Position G Experience 9 years College Memphis 2009 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc. Grade: 54 | Key Comment: Hicks has good size and strength with limited athletic ability. He has played both tackle and guard during his seven years in the league. He has decent initial pop off the line of scrimmage as a zone run-blocker and is best in a confined area. He uses his hands well to lock on but is inconsistent to stay connected to defenders. Hicks has average lateral agility and quickness, and gets exposed in space. He has enough strength and power to anchor well versus interior bull-rushers but isn't as effective versus quick counters and stunts. Hicks has value but lacks the athleticism and technique to be a consistent productive player. |

Re: Hicks: chemistry matters
Hicks sounds like a pretty good pick-up. Shanny wants competition at every position and Hicks should help provide that, plus he brings experience at multiple positions. He may not even become a starter but he brings depth and experience in zone blocking and that certainly helps.

Re: Hicks: chemistry matters
Chemistry matters is an understatement, it's paramount to the cohesiveness of any successful offensive line.
I'm encouraged by the fact he's at least well versed in the blocking schemes utilized by a Shanahan coached team, that will work to his advantage by eliminating that one learning curve. He's probably more suited for the guard position than tackle, hope he can be a productive player for a few years at the very least. Once assembled, this line must begin coming together quickly because the zone scheme requires many reps together and decisions have to be made while the play is taking place, not a lot of different assignments but a lot of techniques. I like the diversity it creates for the runners. |
