Back to the topic though, boy did we dodge a PR bullet by not signing Porter. Good non-move, I say.

What a bum! For the money these players are making looks like they can have some self control. I never liked Bill Parcells because of the rivalry the Skins and Giants had (and the lopsided win loss ratio we had against them) but he knows football he knows talent and he knows when he has an idiot that needs to hit the road. Glad we didn't pick up that hitchhiking idiot.

It makes you wonder how many NFL players' run-ins with the law are a result of their own behavior vs. minor things blown out of proportion by cops. I'd bet a lot of cops froth at the lips at the thought of being able to take down a pro athlete.

I just happen to have rewatched boyz n the hood the other day; its interesting how a couple of the concepts are relevant here. First, the black cop in the movie paints a perfect picture of the cops GMScud described, and second, I think its worth noting that in general, the background of many NFL players instill a distrust of law enforcement. You know, with the whole "stop snitchin" thing...

Maybe it's just because I fall under one of these groups, but I've always felt like cops, lawyers, and the media get painted with the broadest brush. As with any other profession, there are good cops and bad cops. Cops put their lives on the line nearly everyday, and yeah it'd be great if they were all good people. But that's not the way the world works unfortunately.

And really, why didn't Porter just show his license when asked? Why try to create a further scene

Agreed about cops and unfortunately the focus is always on the negative. When you hear the rare good story people say meh, he's doing his job. As soon as they screw up though everyone is up in arms.

Porter should have just kept his mouth shut and went along with the program. Nothing good ever comes from mouthing off or slapping the wrist of a cop. Extremely dumb move on his part.

What was Porter doing to get the cops attention in the first place? I have to wonder what would bring on a confrontation with a cop in a fastfood parking lot. Porter must have done something to bring attention to himself. As far as cops go, there is way too much leniency given to bad cops. Someone who carries a gun and a nightstick should be held to higher standards. And they should be enforced.

it's not like porter is driving around a saturn, these cops sould like d bags. there are alot of shitty cops out there i have had run ins with a ton, both as being a mp and being on the receiving end

Oh the big fella tried to bait me for sure. I could tell he was annoyed when I didn't cower or back down when he put his face in mine. I also kept my mouth totally shut as soon as he got in my grill so he'd have no cause to lock me up. Because I know he REALLY wanted to. Plus there were a few other people out in front of the bar watching those two buttheads.

My neighbor in Gainesville for a few years was a cop, and was a super good dude. So friendly. He was divorced and had a 3 year old son that I watched for him a few times when he got called in to work last-second. I also got to know a few of the sheriffs in town when I was managing that sports bar. Also good dudes. Like I said, I know there are good cops out there. It's just that I've seen SOOO many more D-bags behind a badge than I have nice guys.

this sounds sketchy to me. id like to hear the details from both sides before i say porter was in the wrong here. he shouldnt have made any contact with the cop, but assault, resisting arrest, and drunken driving sound sketchy after reading the report. we will see.

When we were leaving the bar, the cops were talking to some guy who was in the passenger seat of a cab that was stopped right in front of the place. I couldn't hear what the guy said, but the cops (two of them, both pretty big guys) opened the door and yoked this dude out the car, and when he slid out of the seat, the first thing that hit the pavement was his forehead. He wasn't resisting, wasn't fighting back, nothing. Then one of the cops dropped a knee on the guys back to pin him down while he handcuffed him. All the while the guy was like "what the hell did I do? At least tell me what I did!" The cops didn't answer him, but they were both laughing out loud. I was disgusted. It was so excessive. So I said out loud, "hey buddy, if you want a witness on your behalf, I'm your man." The bigger of the two cops came over and got about two inches from my face and asked me if I wanted to be next. I didn't budge or say a word, I just stared at the guy, nose to nose. He then smirked, looked me up and down, called me a "punk ass," and then went and threw the other guy into the back of his cruiser. Eff that.

Your buddy sounds like a good dude, but growing up here in D.C. the cops were total dicks. PG County cops, too, now that I think about it. I'm not a cop hater by any stretch, but it's like they go out of their way at times to prove who's in charge. And by doing so they incite attitudes.

I have a friend who is a PG cop. He is a good guy but I wouldn't want to run into him while he is working. I don't think you can use PG county as a barometer for all police, that place is a warzone.

He gave me this advice, do not mouth off to them and whatever you do, don't run. And if you do run, do not run into the woods or an enclosed area because they 100% will beat the shit out of you.

That being said, most of the cops that I have encountered are useless pricks. Ever since some illegal aliens harrassed my wife and kid on the road and ran into the back of our car (no significant damage, but there was damage and their was a witness) and then didn't even write the other car a ticket, I could care less about them. I am sure that some of them are good people but a lot of them abuse their authority, use their authority when it suits them and are pretty much just glorified revenue producers for the state.

I had a neighbor who was a police officer in Philadelphia (another good guy), he confirmed that a huge percentage of the officers up there are getting envelopes a couple of times a week.

Police are just like everybody else, except they are empowered.

I grew up in Chevy Chase DC (just across the MD line in upper NW). I know, I know, it's a nice cushy neighborhood. But I've been around DC PD and MO CO PD most of my life, and in my experience, MO CO cops are way bigger jerks than DC PD. Thing is, DC PD just never seemed to give a shit about anything. Growing up in my neighborhood as a kid, the worst crimes we ever dealt with were the occasional stolen car, or maybe a break in every once and a while.

DC cops who were used to hard ass drug dealers/murders/etc kind laughed at our part of town. I guess the parts of MO CO where crime isn't exactly rampant (Chevy Chase, Bethesda, Potomac), they are just looking for any reason to flex their so called muscles, so they'll nit pick on little stuff.

Yeah, I thought of that. But they didn't even pat the guy down, and he obviously wasn't carrying any weapons. Even if he had a warrant or had previously done something I didn't see that was cause for arrest, the manner in which they went after him was totally excessive. I mean, the sound of the guy's head hitting the pavement was sickening. I was pretty surprised he wasn't knocked out from it.

I agree that the idiots on "Cops" who scream "I didn't do nothing!!" are pretty much full of shit, but this guy didn't do anything that deserved him being mauled like that just to be taken into custody. They could have cuffed him and put him into their cruiser easily without bouncing his forehead off of the concrete and giving him a knee drop to the spine.

I agree 100%. Seen things like this happen all too often, had it happen once to myself. A guy that I know is a cop in VA too, I always told him his mouth would end up getting the best of him by someone with nothing to lose. Got his ass handed to him one night, spent a few days in the hospital.
