Re: Rod Gardner Trade Possibilities

i've always been an advocate of Rod Gardner...as stated, he works hard, keeps his mouth shut, and is a team player. he fits in Gibbs' offense as a possession receiver...he had several bad drops over his career, and that is something everyone keys in on. he had more TDs than Coles last year...and still is capable of being a go to guy (last season, had 2 games of 100+ yards, only one game with no catches).

the Skins are stead fast on getting rid of him...even though he would greatly compliment Moss and Patten (Gardner is 6'2", compared to Moss and Patten at 5'10"). i just hope we get as much as we can for him, and not settle just to get him out of town...

Wow...I didn't realize Rod's numbers were that similar to Burress'. Glad we didn't go after him.
Plus, if he is really drawing that much interest, maybe we will be able to get a higher round pick out of somebody.

Re: Rod Gardner Trade Possibilities

The good news is that several teams are interested in him. If only one team showed real interest, we might have done something dumb like trade him for a late 4th rounder, just to get him out of town. I have heard rumors that this Redskins team will trade WRs for horrible deals just to get them out of town. Hopefully we will start a mini-bidding war that gets us up to at worst a mid-3rd.

Gardner isn't as bad as people like to make him out to be. He has some concentration issues, but I feel he's the type of player that if you keep throwing him the ball he'll make more great plays than stupid plays. He gets better the more he touches it.
Does running routes at less than 100%, repeated false start penalties (from a WR??) and more dropped balls than one can count reflect someone "not as bad as people make him out to be"? Were you watching the same Redskins the past few years as the rest of us?

Something we're all ignoring is that this is Gardner's last year of his contract. He is going to get a decent payday next offseason and I don't think the Skins think he is worth it. Trading him now creates cap space and gets them a return when they probably won't get one next year.

Re: Rod Gardner Trade Possibilities

I want my team's receivers to catch balls... buress and gardner can't do that... yeah he had 100 yard games... guess what? coles didnt go a single game without 3 catches and at least 30 yards (well except in 2003 when hassslebeck threw 4 ints and had a 0.0 QB rating, not coles fault)... and thats with multiple injuries and stunts by hasslebeck and brunell at the helm.

Re: Rod Gardner Trade Possibilities

Sounds like we stand a pretty good chance at getting decent pick for him in return.

A 3rd rounder would be great.

Paintrain:

You forgot to mention Gardner's very untimely holding penalties.

Now that the Skins need to move Gardner to free up cap space - they will need room to sign the 9th pick in the draft if nothing else - the bidding for Gardner will go down not up. Teams know the Skins cap room situation; it is not a secret. So teams are less motivated to bid high for this guy because they know the Skins are really anxious to move him on.

True, but on the other hand... Believe it or not, but it sounds like Gardner may be quickly becoming the top WR on the market. So teams looking for a veteran wide-out will want to snatch him up, which works in the favor of the Redskins. Either way, it should be interesting to see what happens.

I say if our WR corps is unhappy then we should just go ahead and trade them, and personally I don't care which of those teams it is. I'm just curious if "middle-round draft choice" means 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. I like the idea of adding draftpicks, there's a few positions where we need more depth and even if we don't net a starter from the pick we receive for Gardner, we can at least get some young depth at a position and get a player who in a couple years could become a solid contributor.

Any thoughts?
Gee........Gardner is more "consistent" than Plaxico......Plaxico must be worse than I thought

A mid round draft pick..........I'll take it.....more than likely a 4th............
