Here's something from Jason Reid earlier in the week.

Yeah. Stuff like this upsets me more than the negativity from the WaPo that a lot of people have harped on over the years. It's just shitty coverage. I mean there's no excuse for a guy from the Washington Examiner and one from Fredericksburg to have some of the best coverage. I'll take it however it comes though.

The cornerback thought his career in Washington was over, but now Haslett believes he can turn him into an Antoine Winfield-type player. Haslett will take advantage of Rogers' size and he'll send him on a lot more blitzes.

* Brian Orakpo told me after practice that Haslett's playbook has at least 20 more blitzes than Greg Blache's version. He said it was a little overwhelming at first, but now he's not thinking as much.

* When former Cowboys receiver Joey Galloway broke free on a deep ball, Haslett just about lost it. "How many [expletive] times do we have to do this?" he shoutd in the general direction of safety LaRon Landry. By the way, Landry has a very difficult time not destroying receivers across the middle -- even when players are in shorts. In Friday's morning session, Landry pulled up at the last possible moment when Chris Cooley caught a McNabb pass across the middle. It looks like one of Cooley's brothers (Taylor?) was conducting some interviews for the tight end's blog after practice. They were focusing on Santana Moss.

* Cornerback Justin Tryon made a nice recovery on a fly pattern to Roydell Williams. At this moment, Moss and Galloway are your starting wide receivers. I think it's the weakest part of this team, but Moss tried to convince me otherwise during a 20-minute visit following practice.
Great post! Several interesting points:

1) Creative blitzing was really lost on Blache. GWilliams did have a lot of success blitzing our CB's/DB's. Hopefully Haslett can be successful at it as well, our DB's are good at it and should thrive on it.

2) It will be good for Orakpo's development getting an education on a real NFL defense scheme. Not Blache's line up and play a not to get beat scheme.
We will do better attacking and dictating to the offenses.

3) As much shit as some on this sight have given the acquisition of Joey Galloway, it has really been beneficial. Galloway and Moss will teach our deep safety's (especially Landry) their #1 responsibility, not to over play the run and protect against the long ball. This is really good for Landry. Get embarrassed and learn now in camp as opposed to in a real games. Once Landry gets it, he will be special.
Landry needs to stop trying to deliver the big knock out hit on every play. Let the big hits come naturally on their own. Lnadry is a big, fast and physical safety, his big hits highlight reel will happen on its own. Once he concerns himself more with all the other aspects of his position and forgets about trying kill someone, he will be great safety. Haslett is teaching him.

From 1-5pm today at Big Al's restaurant in Richmond if you can do the condition test you get free wings. I thought that was a pretty cool promotion. Im not doing it, but thought others might want to try it

Regardless, I am glad that the team is together, with a week of practice before the first preseason game. And I think all the teammates can feel that it was handled professionally, and not cause much stir in the locker room.

That's great C. I bet you were awesome at putting puzzles together as a kid!

Way to use those deductive reasoning skills!

BTW it is really good to have all the players on the skins praticing now, unless otherwise injured.

AH could be great in this defense, it will be fun to see where and how he is used and I really hope that he enjoys this defense. As we all know last year he provided a way to let AC and BO get free many times.

Re: Haynesworth PASSES Conditioning Test

So I'm watching the Jim Haslett vid from the Redskins site.
When asked "Is Albert eager to play End (paraphrasing) ? Haslett responded "He really has no say in that" (as in he don't call the shots around here.
I LOVE that NO nonsense, he's just another face attitude.
Very much needed for this team......nobody bigger than the whole

watched the same thing as you... the reporter asked if Albert was open to learning nose tackle first and eager to take on those responsibilities and Haslett reponded he had no say in it.

Be there for him, but provide the proper discapline to be the best, no compramizes.
Might not have been all ego(not passing the test). Might have been mostly the knee. If ego was still a factor AH would have been a no show, etc, or caused more problems ala TO. Him not showing up to OTA's might have been due to the knee and nothing more, but he didn't want to advertise it. I don't see how AH could not have passed that test if he was OK. I am glad he passed, but he might be on the early cusp of having some chronic knee problems this season. I just hope he maybe strained the ligaments while shedding those 35lbs and can heal properly before Dallas. I am not concerned about his ego. Most guys in the NFL have overinflated egos, along with their overinflated salaries. You have a $100 million investment in the guy, you want a return on that investment. That is the bottom line. As for the media? They don't give a damn either, it is controversy that gets ratings/sells copy that they are after.

Re: Haynesworth PASSES Conditioning Test

It seems that Haslett is genuinely excited to have a player of AH's caliber on his defense. I hope that he brings out the same talent that Fisher and Schwartz got out of him in Tennessee. Now I hope JLC and the rest of the football media can focus on reporting football from our team and not hype up crap non-stories.

True, but at the same time now that this ego contest is over I do hope that the team focuses on putting the right players in the right position. I am glad that this whole situation is over and MS and the coaching staff have asserted their authority.

If healthy, Kemo should be the NT, he has the physique for being a NT and has the experience. Teams like Green Bay, New England, Pittsburgh, and San Francisco spent resources in keeping their true Nose Tackles on their rosters (I forgot the NT in Green Bay, but the Pats kept Wilfork, Steelers locked up Casey Hampton, and the 49ers re-signed Aubrayo Franklin).

Haynesworth will be a good rushing NT on passing situation, and I think him at either Daniels or Carriker at ends will do a good job at stopping the run. I also see Kemo and AH taking up so many blockers, that it will allow the likes of Orakpo or Alexander to come through with ease during a rush.

Why are you so sure of the ego contest slant? Before you light me up, not saying you are wrong, just questioning if we should just take it at face value as being all ego. The media wants this slant to be accepted since they got 10 days worth of copy out of it. Trainers said the knee showed signs of swelling after the first botched attempt. Secondly, the guy did shed 35 lbs in the offseason, so the guy obviously wanted to be in better shape. Would he have worked his ass off just to **** around during preseason? Idle speculation on my part of course is AH messed up his knee shedding those 35 lbs off and missed the OTA's because of it, not wanting the FO of his knee problems. Thing is this happened during his rants about going to the 3-4 and the drama that went with it. I am not saying ego couldn't be the main factor in the drama, but him coming to camp 35 lbs lighter shows me he came to play. I don't think he would do all that work, just to screw up his preseason playing games by failing a physical fitness test on purpose.

WHY WHY WHY keep discussing little things? Crap, I put a post that talks about the defense and how Haynesworth, Kemo, and other guys could fit and all you can think about writing a paragraph is my personal opinion that this was an ego contest? No wonder the media hypes these non-stories.
