Oregon and Stanford beat any of those teams. Arizona lose to Auburn but compete/beat the others. Oregon St and USC would get killed by the top 3 but hang/beat the bottom 3. I dont think Im that far off. SEC as a whole is better than the Pac 10, but Oregon and Stanford are very very good teams.

To put it more succinctly, you ---and by you, I'm referring to you and GMScud (The guy won't give me an inch on Obama, so I have to find an opening where I can get it.) -- tend to ascribe success and high national rankings of smaller or lesser known programs as a fluke, dumb luck, weak scheduling, an off year in the SEC or a combination of the four. But when it comes to anyalizing the SEC, you seem to have the best talent in the land, the best coaches, most loyal fans, and unmatched football prowess vs the rest of college football. Now considering that the SEC have been kicking ass and taking names for the past four years, I think that is a sometimes fair assessment. But it's the, what I perceive to be, belittling of inferior programs and the sense of entitelment that tends to surround SEC programs which leads me to think this. Hey, I have no real problem with SEC dominance. They produce great NFL caliber players and make pretty good Redskins! |

Boise and TCU are good if not great teams. I'm not discounting them. If they won the NC it would be well deserved but I don't think they deserve it over a 1 loss SEC or Oregon team.

The fact of the matter is the SEC year in and year out is the best conference, and has proven it by their overall dominance over the last decade. They're bigger, faster, and stronger than any other conference, although I do agree that the Pac-10 is stronger this year than they've been in a long time. I love watching Oregon play. But I gotta say man, your flat out hating of the SEC really speaks to how good of a conference it is. The SEC championship game has been the national semi-final for three year's running for pete's sake. Pac-10 needs a championship game badly.

I'm not sure I've ever poo-pooed smaller/lesser known programs' high rankings as a fluke, dumb luck, or a down year for the SEC. However when you look at schools like Boise St, how can you not consider strength of schedule? This year they beat a vastly overrated Va Tech (the ACC is garbage this season), and a .500 Oregon State team. That's it. They are a great program to be sure, and they've proven in the past they can hang with teams like Oklahoma (thanks to gadget plays, but hey, a W is a W), but SOS is important. You look at Boise State's schedule... I mean... pretty much all of those schools would lose to SEC bottom feeders. A one loss team that runs the gauntlet of an SEC (or this year, a PAC 10) schedule is more deserving of a shot at the title than a team that plays nobody. That said, get a damn playoff system. The BCS is a joke.

I'm calling it now.
Oregon vs. TCU in title game. TCU's only remaining challenge was #5 Utah and they destroyed them 47-7. This gives them the edge over Boise State I think. San Diego State and New Mexico remaining

I tip my hat to Spurrier and the Gamecocks. They're a better team this year for sure. That said, I like how loaded with blue chip talent our younger guys are though. The '08 National Championship led to what some have called the best recruiting class of all time in '09. Give us a minute. We'll be back.

I call them overrated because it seems like almost every year they are in the preseason discussion as a national title contender, and they don't ever deliver. They haven't had a QB worth a damn since Vick. And don't forget how awful the ACC is this year.
